It seems that Amazon is on a roll when it comes to creating new gadgets. Last week they announced their new streaming box called Amazon Fire TV, a device that lets you see popular television shows, music and games right on your normal TV set. Now they’ve revealed a new gadget that will help you pick fresh groceries, called the Amazon Dash. The new device is shaped like a pen and comes with a scanner and a microphone and it will come in real handy if you are buying your vegetables from Amazon Fresh, the online grocery delivery service.
Amazon says that the new gadget is very easy to use. For example, if you’re out of breakfast cereal you scan the bar code on the box and add a new item on your grocery list. If the product doesn’t have a bar code, you press the talk button and speak your order into the device. To complete the order you go to Amazon Fresh, review the items on your list and that’s it. Just make sure you double check the grocery list before you hit Buy because Amazon Dash is designed for everyone in the family, including the children.
You can connect the new device using a Wi-Fi network so you can review the shopping list online or on your smartphone with a special app. You also get a free delivery on orders bigger than $35 and if you place your order before 10am, Amazon says that you’ll get it before dinner time.
Amazon Dash is only available in San Francisco, Southern California and Seattle for now
The new gadget is only available for users of Amazon Fresh which operates in San Francisco, Southern California and Seattle, for now. The giant retail company is planning to launch the online grocery business in more than 20 big American cities in 2014, as well as in other countries. Amazon is also considering a huge delivery service that will have trucks delivering the groceries directly to the customer’s homes.
