The wonder phone from Amazon which had been rumored for launch this year and that too available for free that is not locked to any service provider, has turned out to be all myth. Amazon has themselves denied any such move or product coming this year. Jessica Lessin, a journalist who had worked with the Wall Street Journal before and who has to her credit the accurate prediction on the device launched by Amazon last year, had written about this bit of news on the to-be launched smartphone from Amazon.
She has sources and that too reliable ones in Amazon, is her claim, based on which she had published her prediction. Significantly, Amazon hasn’t ruled out entirely there are into making such a device even though they haven’t acknowledged it either.
At present Amazon’s Kindle Fire is counted among the best Android tablet if not the best out there. One of the reasons behind its success is that the Kindle Fire devices are offered in an extremely competitive price range. This being so considering Amazon’s strategy with the Kindle Fire tablet offerings is that these are mediums to drive sales of Amazon’s content. The Kindle Fire devices are closely tied to the Amazon ecosystem, be it ebooks, music or videos.
Now with smartphones being the other segment besides tablets that has been witnessing considerable growth in recent times, it’s all but natural for Amazon to vie for a product of its own in this segment. This will provide the online retailer with a new medium to push sales of its contents or other products. While it has been a typical Amazon policy to use a low initial cost of the product to lure in buyers, the idea of zero upfront costs does seem a bit too far stretched.
To sum up, the market would have to wait to get any positive result from Amazon in this regard though no one knows how long we can be kept waiting.
