STATES CHRONICLE – The digital personal assistant Amazon’s Alexa will be using Yelp for information about local businesses and restaurants, via their Echo device. The small, tube-shaped gadget is an in-home speaker-like device that is Bluetooth enabled. This presents with several perks.
For one, the smart device can be used to control some other smart gadgets within your home. And all of it is done through voice command. It seems that we’re edging closer to an era when button-pressing will be a thing of the past. Speaking out, and talking to the gadgets within your house or apartment would be the faster, better way to do it.
In lieu of this forward leap, Amazon’s Echo will now be offering information on restaurants and other food joints around you with the help of Yelp. That is, of course, after you enter your Echo app and tell Alexa where you live. After that, it’s all in the sort of information you require.
According to popular commercial website, the digital personal assistant will give you answers “straight from Yelp”. The process is fairly simple, starting with asking Alexa for nearby restaurants, or even those with a particular theme, be it Chinese, Mexican, fusion, or whatever else you heart desires. Since Echo has no display, the digital personal assistant will inform you of the address.
Furthermore, it will be taking information from Yelp’s star rating to provide you for further details that would ensure you will be engaging in fine dining. Even more, users will be enabled to ask Alexa more about phone number, hours of operation. By using the personal assistant’s app, it will provide you with Yelp’s results.
Now, it also depends on how much you trust Yelp. The star rating may be its only standard, considering it won’t be reading the reviews. That would likely take a long time, and it may not always include information you want to hear out loud. But it will be telling you what sort of places are available near your home, and the overall opinion of the public.
Amazon has been slowly increasing the number of things their Echo device paired with Alexa could do. It also includes up-to-date information about your favorite sports team (again, provided you’ve informed it on who it is), detailing about their scheduled games and latest results.
Echo will also be pairing up with Insteon or SmartThings setups that might already be existing in your home. Talking to the device would control more than just one thing.
