Apple and U2 team up for virtual reality project involving a 360 degree music video. The new music video is available on the Vrse App and is part of the new The Experience Buss project.
The collaboration between the band and Apple will allow fans at U2 concerts to board the bus and watch the “Song for someone” music video using the Oculus headsets. The video also contains footage of the band onstage, exclusive behind-the-scenes jam sessions as well as recordings of other musicians across the world playing their instruments in their own homes.
The “Song for someone” music video has been transformed into an immersive three-dimensional experience that offers a 360 degree perspective and is the band’s latest music video.
It is the tech company’s first virtual reality project but it is by no means the first collaboration with U2. The virtual reality project is just the latest move in a series of common projects that the band and the brand have worked on. When the band released their “Songs of Innocence” album last year in September, the brand released it for free to 26 million Apple Music subscribers.
Although fans of the band appreciated the free music, others weren’t as thrilled about finding the free album in their iTunes library. Apple later issued instructions on how to remove the album from their libraries, should customers wish to. The brand was subject to some criticism for the move as some customers were not happy about having the album put into their devices without their consent.
But this new virtual reality video experience is targeting the band’s fans and makes the special featured video available for fans attending the band’s concerts, so it’s fan base oriented. It’s also offering great exposure for Apple in this context as the New Experience double decker busses are a great advertising tool.
Aside from the Oculus equipment and headsets that they carry, they also feature other Apple products such as iPads, MacBooks and Beats Solos that all feature the band’s latest music video. The impressive and imposing bus made its first appearance last week at a U2 concert in London and is scheduled to make more appearances at the band’s events.
Fans that miss the Bus Experience on the road shouldn’t feel too disappointed though, as the whole “Song for someone” virtual experience is also available for those Apple customers that have the Vrse App.
