The much rumored iPhone 5C has been launched. The iPhone 5C is going to replace the discontinued iPhone 5. However, this can be considered exception because whenever Apple introduces a new iPhone, the company reduces the price of the last year’s model and continues to sell it. The iPhone 5 which released in 2012 will be discontinued to make way for iPhone 5C.
Why is the iPhone 5C replacing the iPhone 5? The reason behind it is that the iPhone 5C is sporting the same specs as the iPhone 5. However, the major difference is that the iPhone 5C will be made available in vibrant colors like blue, green, yellow, red and white.
Let us compare the iPhone 5C with the older iPhone 5.
Point of Sameness Between iPhone 5C and iPhone 5
The iPhone 5C’s weight is 132gm whereas that of predecessor model is 112gms. Even the dimensions of the iPhone 5C with 124.4 x 59.2 x 8.97mm are larger than that of iPhone 5 with 123.8 x 58 x 7.6mm. So, going by the dimensions, we can guess that the iPhone 5C is thicker than the iPhone 5.
The iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5 are both powered by the same A6 chip. Also, both the iPhones have got 4inch Retina Display. Both offer the same resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels with a pixel density of 326ppi. So, the manufacturers haven’t changed as far as processor and display size and technology is concerned.
Point of Difference Between iPhone 5C and iPhone 5
The iPhone 5C is made up of highly durable polycarbonate body whereas the iPhone 5 has got aluminum body. Compared to iPhone 5, the new iPhone 5C supports more 4G networks. The iPhone 5C will not be offered in 64GB storage variant which means the handset will be available in two storage variants namely, 16GB and 32GB. Well, the iPhone 5 was available in 64GB storage variant as well. Apple makes the 64GB storage variant available exclusively for the premium iPhone 5S edition.
Both the iPhones have got a 8MP camera at the rear side whereas at the front side of both the handsets has got 1.2MP front-facing camera. However, both the cameras of the iPhone 5C have been tweaked as the rear camera has got features like f/2.4 aperture and rear-side illumination sensor. The front-facing camera also comes with rear-side illumination which enables users to take good quality photos in dim lighting conditions. Some of the improved camera features are mainly because of the iOS 7.
The iPhone 5 will also get the iOS7 upgrade very soon and even its camera will be blessed with new features. However, the iPhone 5C is shipped with the new camera features out-of-the-box.
The iPhone 5C comes with longer battery life with 10hrs of talk time on 3G and nearly 250 hours of standby time. On the other hand, the iPhone 5 comes with a battery life that offers 8hrs of talk time on 3G and nearly 225 hours of standby time.
To be frank, the iPhone 5C is not a major upgrade compared to the iPhone 5. We feel that those who own iPhone 5 will not be interested in buying iPhone 5C citing similar features. Also, the difference between the two devices may not encourage anyone to purchase the iPhone 5C. If you are considering a upgrade, you can sell out more money to get the new feature rich iPhone 5S.
