Jeremy Clarkson, one of the easiest to recognize faces of the British television, presenter of the auto show TV hit Top Gear and a person well known for his intriguing comments on basically every matter was suspended by the BBC network on March 10. The British television has then claimed that some `fracas` with a producer of the show was the reason for Clarkson`s suspension. Also, BBC cancelled the broadcasting of some Sunday episodes. The event caused a lot of fuss among the internet, especially on the social media platforms. Facebook, Twitter and other social sites like these were full of messages which aimed to support Clarkson. Fans have also urged BBC to take Clarkson back, or, in some, cases, threatened the British television, saying that the BBC will have to suffer after this decision. They were hopefully referring to a decrease in the audience. But you never know, after all, they are Jeremy Clarkson`s fans.
Even if, at that moment, the BBC refused to comment further on the matter, the cable company has made public some more information regarding the Clarkson `scandal`, we could say. According to the broadcasting company, there was not just a fracas between Jeremy Clarkson and the producer. It seems that Clarkson physically obstructed Oisin Tymon by punching him in the face. The latter was caused bleeding to his lip and he also was the victim of Clarkson`s verbal violence, which not surprisingly, seems to have gotten extreme. Oisin Tymon was later transported to the hospital.
The director general of the British Broadcasting Corporation, Tony Hall, made his comment on the subject public.
“It is with great regret that I have told Jeremy Clarkson today that the BBC will not be renewing his contract. For me a line has been crossed. There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated either by rank, or public relations and commercial considerations,”
director general Tony Hall, Baron Hall of Birkenhead has stated.
This could be a decision that could have serious consequences on BBC`s TV audience. At least, the British broadcaster is expected to come up with a new, exciting solution. The fans of the show do not look very happy about Clarkson not getting a contract renewal. And this could mean a lot, since Top Gear is broadcasted in over 200 countries, and is one of the most significant money-makers at BBC.
