The article introduced the story of Simone Harbinson who was a cancer patient
After being diagnosed, Harbinson has experienced many issues, undergoing surgery to fix bowel leakage, a blood clot, a partial lung collapse and an infection which cause her to be quarantined. The bowel surgery left her with a huge scar down the middle of her stomach. Because of all the health problems she faced along her recovery, Harbinson was unable to follow her exercise routine because she felt weak and unstable. She had a new lifestyle which was very limited.
Harbinson admitted that in the past she had different eating patterns, using food as a way to comfort herself. Now, after facing all this trouble, she wonders whether she was too strict on herself and that is what triggered the binges. She knows that her relationship with food from before being a cancer patient was not healthy. However, after all the problems, she was also diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder due to her cancer diagnosis.
She was prescribed a certain treatment, but, nevertheless, she continued to turn to food for comfort and gained approximately 35 pounds. In 2016, Harbinson found out about a fitness program which helped her lose 44 pounds by following a healthy eating plan. On April 11, Cosmo magazine changed the title of their article to “A Serious Health Scare Helped Me Love My Body More Than Ever.”
