Is Climate Change a Climate Change Hustle?

May 5, 2016 By Georgia Dawson 1 Comment

"climate change or climate change hustle?"

“Are we rushing ourselves into the grave and dragging the planet with us?”

STATES CHRONICLE – Is the climate change around the world actually a climate change hustle? Is it something the media or some political candidates have invented to attract more audiences and partisans? Or is it a real issue skeptics are making worse? Climate Hustle, a documentary about – as the title points out, climate change, is showing people of the mixed science plus entertainment era, the opinions of both camps around this now delicate subject.

I personally do not believe the climate changes unfolding savagely throughout the world to be climate change hustle or bogus. But what am I basing my opinions on?

Mario Vargas Llosa has called this era, the era of entertainment. And they say that this 30 something year old generation is the generation of documentaries. The generation that makes “informed” decisions based on the facts presented under the form of documentaries. No wonder the term mockumentary has also been thrown around lately. Misleading information often feeds the short span attention minds of the generation that has traded values for speed.

So enter Climate Hustle.

On one side we have Sarah Palin a firm disbeliever of the environmental changes and a political media bate and on the other side, there’s Bill Nye, the Science Guy, and ex Boieng mechanical engineer defending the climate change movement.

It´s fair to say the climate is constantly changing whether we want it or not or whether we´re influencing it. Change is at the base of our very own human nature. However, being the generation of speed, we might also rush the planet into destruction. Because what about the rapid ice cap meltdown, the active rising sea levels, the floods, the tsunamis, the more frequent and stronger earthquakes crashing entire cities all over the world?

Are 97% of the scientists out there adding to the negative perception of mainstream science by really just repeating what they’ve heard? It’s a claim made in the presentation of the Climate Hustle climate change documentary that we recommend seeing for the purpose of inspiration. Inspiration to go do your own research, find out on your own if the international committees set up to address these climate changes have underlying reasons or the issue desperately and truly requires immediate action.

What do you think? Are we rushing ourselves into the grave and dragging the planet with us or is climate change actually a climate change hustle?

iOS Brings Exploding Kittens to Your Phone

"Snapsot of the Exploding Kittens game"

The Exploding Kittens game broke a couple of records since its release.

STATES CHRONICLE – After the card game had an incredible amount of success, iOS brings Exploding Kittens to your phone. The roaring success of the game was attributed to its likeliness to now famous Cards against Humanity, a game which brings out the worst in people.

iOS brings Exploding Kittens to your phone after the incredible success that the card game had on Kickstarter, being one of the most funded projects that ever emerged from the platform. It seems that the game is breaking record after record being the most funded game, the game with the most individual received funds (219,000 people contributed with almost $8.8 million) and now, at only a day after it was released, the game managed to reach number 1 in the Paid App top.

While Cards against Humanity, with which Exploding Kittens were associated, manages to bring out the worse in people and make them build friendships after realizing the lack of humanity in their peers, Exploding Kitten does the exact same opposite. The Russian Roulette of card games helps you ruin your friendships more than Uno or Monopoly ever managed to.

The basic principle of the game is that the players pull cards one by one until they find an exploding kitten. But things get more complicated because you can defuse the furry danger with sandwiches made out of catnip or belly rubs, and you can also sabotage other players and send an exploding kitten to them.

iOS brings Exploding Kittens to your phone with little changes in the original card game. The developers, Shane Small and Elan Lee partnered with Substantial studio in order to transform the game into a full-functioning app. In order to make the App more appealing for all players, they modified the game a little.

According to Small and Lee, the Exploding Kittens App features some new mechanics, new art, voices and sounds. Also new cards have been added while some were removed. But all in all, the game is still as fun to play on your phone as it is when you play it in the card form with your friends.

What is more remarkable when it comes to the App’s overall success is that the digital version, which costs only $1.99, can only be played with other people that are in the same rooms as yourself. This is due to a combination between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology.

While iOS brings Exploding Kittens to your phone, Android and Blackberry aren’t far away with the development, either.

If you’re not yet convinced of the game’s potential, you can check out how to play Exploding Kittens in the video below.

New Health Insurance Could Replace Obamacare

May 7, 2015 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

New Health Insurance Could Replace The Obamacare

A new health insurance could replace Omabacare, as the Affordable Care Act has failed to provide the medical coverage that U.S. citizens need.

President’s Barrack Obama health care plan continues to fail as more and more U.S. citizens show less interest in the new Affordable Care Act.

The ACA was designed as a low-income health insurance meant to offer medical coverage to people who have less financial resources. Despite the promising advantages, the Obamacare failed to convince people to resort to health insurances.

The Affordable Care Act was adopted in 2010 in order to diminish the percentage of medically uninsured population. Back then, reports revealed that 16.5% of the population had no medical coverage for possible health affections.

Current figures show that the percentage has now dropped to 12, so only 4.5% of the population has resorted to the Obamacare.

The promoters of Obama’s health insurance program could consider the 4.5% percentage decrease a success, but Americans claim a new medical coverage should be implemented. The government is, nevertheless, satisfied with the changes that ACA has made so far.

Among other low-income advantages the Obamacare also promised federal government subsidies for citizens who can’t afford to pay health insurance. What’s more, the Affordable Care Act provided medical coverage for children until the age of 26, whose medical services are paid by their parents.

The majority of Obamacare opponents have argued that there are many advantages they never benefitted of.

First of all, users were not able to keep their doctors, although the Act clearly stated that “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”.

Second of all, the health insurance guaranteed a reduced ER time; in reality, the promise never materialized as doctors complained more patients have relied on emergency room services in the past years.

Analysts expect to face a powerful competition wave in health care services in the following period as many health insurance companies are forced to shut down their businesses. A lower percentage of health insurance companies means fewer choices for consumers and possibly higher prices.

Given the previously mentioned circumstances, a new health insurance plan could easily overthrow the Affordable Care Act. The new health care act should be able to respond to all the aforementioned needs of the American citizens in order to convince people to get medical coverage.

Idaho Community Bemoans Officer Greg Moore’s Death

May 6, 2015 By James Faulkner Leave a Comment

Idaho Community Bemoans Officer Greg Moore’s DeathThe entire Idaho community bemoans Officer Greg Moore’s Death which occurred this morning at Kootenai Health Hospital in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at 5:50 p.m. The veteran police officer fell victim to a 26-year-old gunman on early Tuesday morning.

Officer Greg Moore was performing a regular patrol routine around the Coeur d’Alene neighbor at 1:30 on Tuesday when he was deadly injured by the suspect. According to witnesses, Moore approached the suspect with the intention to identify him, but the man refused to comply with the police officer’s orders.

People living in Coeur d’Alene have specifically requested that the police perform regular patrols on their streets after the neighbors have dealt with several car thefts. Greg Moore has spotted a stolen police cruiser and called for help in the area.

He followed the stolen vehicle during a 125 mph race. The man, who allegedly stole the car was found hiding underneath a truck after police dogs have sniffed him.

The ensuing fire exchange has left Sargent Greg Moore with fatal wounds. He was shot around 1:30 a.m. and immediately brought to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care.

The suspect was identified as Jonathan Renfro of Rathdrum and according to the police investigation, the man had many other criminal records besides the charges he has recently received.

He was imprisoned at the jail in Kootenai County, Idaho after being charged with attempted murder, theft of a police vehicle and an officer’s gun. The bail was set to 2 million $ and it is very unlikely that someone will ever pay the gunman’s caution.

His first appearance in court took place on Tuesday afternoon, after Jonathan Renfro was captured.

Police officers and Greg Moore’s colleagues expect authorities to increase charges now that the Sargent’s death has been made official. Moreover, the suspect was on probation, so it is very likely that he will soon return to jail.

The events that occurred on Tuesday morning have had a strong impact on the entire community of Idaho, particularly on people living in the residential are where the man was shot.

Crowds of people have gathered in Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday evening to light candles for the deceased veteran and to express their regret for the ex-police officer’s family.

Sargent Greg Moore was a 16-year veteran of the Idaho Police Department. He was a husband and a father of two. His police career started in 1997, in Asotin County, Washington; in 1999 he moved to Coeur d’Alene where he continued working as a community officer.

Economic Situation Lead Young Women To Delay Having A Baby

April 29, 2015 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

womanMillennial women from the United States are in no rush of having children as the economic situation lead young women to delay having a baby.

Millennial women are delaying to have children due to economical reasons. Women nowadays belong to the slowest generation of having kids in the entire history of the United States. The main reason for this phenomenon is not just because career has become an important part in the modern lives but because of the economical status.

According to statistics, birth rates in America have declined with 15 %(among women between 20 and 29 years old) before and after the financial crisis, more precisely between 2007 and 2012.

The uncertain financial situation made women whose biological clock is not ticking to realize that the situation was tough and postponed having children as they have time later on in life, explained the co author of the research Nan Astone from the Urban Institute.

Unemployment and loans are directly related to the delaying of having children and most of them young women didn’t rule out the possibility of maybe not having children at all.

The economical crisis seems to have had an impact on all races when it comes to the giving birth rate.

The most affected by the situation have proved to be the Hispanics whom between 2007 and 2012 showed a birth decline of 27%. African-American women showed a birth decline of 14% during the same years and birth rate in Caucasian women had declined with 11%.

The economical crisis was felt hard by young adults who had difficulty in finding a job even after graduating college and the majority of them chose to live with their parents because rents became higher.

On the other hand marriage has declined as well. Americans between 25 and 34 years old who have never been married stated that for them marriage hasn’t been an option as they were not financially stable, according to survey reports. Many believe that a baby and a marriage come hand in hand.

Researchers can’t tell for the moment if millennial women (born between 1980 and 2000) will have more children in their thirties or will just have less children than the earlier generations.

However the research did note that there has been an increase of family unbalance as there are more single parents belonging to disadvantaged social groups while adults with better living conditions delayed having kids and getting married.

Isolated Tribe From South America Has Natural Resistance to Antibiotics

April 20, 2015 By Sebastian Mc’Mannen Leave a Comment

tribePeople who have never used modern antibiotics showed to have developed  antibiotic resistance gene, as researchers found out that  an isolated tribe from South America has natural resistance to antibiotics.

A research published in the journal Science Advances has analyzed the bodily bacteria of a remote tribe from South America leading scientist to believe that the human’s body capacity to resist antibiotics has existed long before the development of antibiotic treatments.

The Yanomami are people living in isolated conditions in the mountain region of South Venezuela and they have been living there ever since their ancestors settled, almost 11,000 years ago.  They had lived separated from the rest of the world until 2009 when they were discovered by researchers.

These people have shown to have the largest diversity of bacteria that was ever found in humans. Some of the microbes, have actually never been discovered in the human body before, explained researchers.

What was surprising to discover was the fact that the tribe possessed genes that were resistant to natural antibiotics which included those germs that have developed resistance to antibiotics produced synthetically,  but these people have never taken man made antibiotics.

Scientists have tested bacteria collected from the Venezuelan tribe, to 23 different types of antibiotics and discovered that the medicine managed to kill every single one of them. Even so, further analysis has shown that the bacteria contained a hidden resistance that was set off when in contact with the antibiotics.

Exaggerated use of antibiotics used for treatments or for agriculture purposes is causing a world wide increase of germs who have developed resistance and strong medicine is losing its ability to kill them.

Our system contains trillions of microbes(microbiome) that live inside and outside of every area of our body and each of them has a role in the functioning and health of the human body, from controlling the immune system to digesting food.

It seems that the pre-modern humans had a most extended gamma of microbes and bacteria which had more diversified roles, comparing to the humans that have been affected by modern life and treatments, like modern antibiotics and processed diets, explained professor of immunology and pathology, Gautam Dantas from the Washington University, St.Louis.

Medicine professor Maria Dominguez-Bello from the Langone Medical Center from New York, stated that the explanation for the diminishing of microbial diversity in our bodies, might be the fact that certain diseases like diabetes, asthma, allergies and obesity have increased for the last 40 years.

She added that researchers have serious reasons to assume that there is something that has changed in the environment for the past decades that has expanded the occurring of this diseases, and that thing might have to do with our microbiome.

For the experiment, scientists have studied microbial samples from the mouth, intestines and skin  taken from 34 of the Yanomami people which were compared to a group of people from the United States, a number of people from Malawi, South Africa and another tribe from Venezuela called the Guihabo.

The Yanomami people showed to have a doubled number of microbe diversity compared to U.S. people and 30%-40% than the people from Malawi and Guahibo.

Certain microbes possessed only by the Yanomami served to protect the body against developing kidney stones.

For the moment, researchers are not sure is this diverse microbiome found in the Yanomami, has a beneficial or negative impact on the health.

Health Concerns at Spas, and How to Avoid Them

April 14, 2015 By James Faulkner Leave a Comment

Spending a day at the spa may sound extremely inviting, especially if you’re in the mood for some much-needed pampering. But whether you’re getting a massage or a manicure and pedicure, there are certain health concerns at spas that you should be aware of. Continue reading to learn what they are, as well as to gain access to tips on how to avoid them.

Foot Infections

No matter what you do, whether you spend time in the sauna or you’re getting a massage at your favourite spa, it’s best to avoid going barefoot, as you can expose yourself to a variety of bacteria and fungi that you don’t even know are there.

More importantly, though, you should take steps to avoid foot infections that you can be exposed to during a pedicure. In fact, these infections can also target your legs, particularly when you’re soaking your feet in preparation for having your rough skin removed and your toenails painted.

Avoiding the Problem: Broken skin should never come into contact with spa water, as that’s the easiest way for microorganisms to enter your body. Avoid shaving, using hair removal products, and waxing 24 hours prior to going to a foot spa. Don’t go to the foot spa in the first place if you have bruises, scabs, cuts, scratches, bug bites, etc.

Injuries from Massages

Massages may seem innocent enough, but if they’re performed by an inexperienced therapist, or an uncertified therapist with little to no education, you could actually be hurt. This is especially true if you suffer from a chronic condition and you get a deep massage.

Avoiding the Problem: If you suffer from chronic conditions, it’s best to ask your doctor before getting a massage, and it’s also recommended that you stick with very light massage therapies.

You can also avoid problems in general, even if you’re healthy, by opting for massage therapists that are fully certified and experienced in a variety of different massage techniques. Facilities should be clean and hygienic, and they should use equipment like therapy couches by therapyessentials.co.uk for safe and relaxing results.

Reconsider Hot Tub Spas

While it may be really tempting to soak in a hot tub at your local spa, bear this information in mind: the CDC found that over half of public hot tub spas in the United States alone violated public health standards in 2004. The most common violation was poor water quality, which is a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria.

Avoiding the Problem: Ask the spa about the treatments they use to keep their hot tub water clean. Observe the overall cleanliness of the facility, taking note of disinfecting agents they use to clean. And avoid hot tubs altogether if you have any skin injuries.

Although there are some risks involved with going to a spa, you don’t have to avoid indulging in a spa treatment every now and then. Just be sure you go to a clean facility that uses high quality equipment and is staffed by professionals who know how to prevent the spread of

Studies Show That Meat is Not the Enemy in the Quest for Better Health

April 13, 2015 By James Faulkner Leave a Comment

There has, for decades, been a debate between vegetarians and vegans and meat eaters over which is the healthier lifestyle. While many vegetarians avoid meat for ethical rather than nutritional reasons, there are others who are strong proponents of the argument that meat is unhealthy and that those who abstain from eating it are less likely to suffer from things like diabetes, heart disease, and various forms of cancer.

While people’s decisions about what to eat are their own, it pays to understand the facts when making decisions relating to your own health and lifestyle. Many of the arguments in support of a meat free diet have long been debunked by proper peer reviewed scientific studies, and it is these we should be looking to, rather than internet hearsay.

Meat Consumption and Obesity

Of course, some people do eat too much red meat, but then equally, some people eat too much sugar or too much fat. The increase in obesity in America has been linked to the increase in meat consumption, but this is only part of the story. While Americans do indeed eat more meat today than ever in the past, they also eat more of everything else too. This article in the New York Times references studies that have shown no correlation between obesity and whether or not someone is a vegetarian. Equally, we must take into account the simple matter of caloric density – when it comes to weight gain, all meats are not the same. Meat is mostly protein, and protein does not have as many calories per gram as fat, therefore while very fatty meat is highly caloric, lean meat is not.

Meat Consumption and Disease

Observational research on vegetarians and meat eaters has on occasion shown that the vegetarian subjects were less likely to suffer from certain health problems than meat eaters. However, as with all observational studies, cause and correlation are two different things. In fact, when researchers have looked into this more thoroughly, it appears that the reason for this is that the vegetarian group were more health aware in general – they didn’t smoke or drink as much, and exercised regularly. If they were then compared to health conscious counterparts in the meat eating groups, there was actually no difference at all.

Being a Health Conscious Meat Eater

So, if you like eating meat and have no moral or religious objections to it, it seems that giving it up will not make you healthier. However, what is important is that meat is part of a generally healthy lifestyle. High quality, lean meats of the type you can get from farmers or online farm shops like Good Grub People are a better choice, and of course, also taste much better than bland supermarket meats – and after all, the taste is the main reason to want to eat meat in the first place!

Everybody has the right to choose what they put in their bodies, but it is important to do your research and understand what is fact, and what is opinion in the great meat debate!

Men Top Women When It Comes To Narcissism, Study Suggests

March 6, 2015 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

Men Top Women When It Comes To Narcissism, Study SuggestsIf you thought women spend too much time obsessing about themselves, a now study will prove you wrong. New research on narcissism based on decades of data provided by half a million subjects uncovered that men top women when it comes to narcissism

For the research, which is distributed in the diary Psychological Bulletin, scientists from the University at Buffalo School of Management, NY, examined the gender contrasts in narcissism across more than 300 “diary articles, theses, books and specialized manuals. Per total, the study reviewed 30 years of research and over 475,000 subjects.

Specifically, the specialists concentrated on three aspects of narcissism: entitlement, grandiose/exhibitionism and leadership/authority.

The biggest discrepancies between genders in the study was in entitlement, according to the authors. They claim this recommends that men are more prone than women to use others and that they feel they have the right to specific privileges. The second biggest discrepancy was in leadership/authority, which drove the scientists to note that men display more yearning for power than women.

Nevertheless, there was no huge gender gap concerning exhibitionism, which proposes that men and women are prone to be similarly as vain or self-absorbed.

Reviewing data from university students from 1990 to 2013, the group reports it discovered no confirmation of either gender getting more or less narcissistic over the long haul.

Past studies have uncovered that personality contrasts like narcissism are associated with expectations and gender stereotypes. Case in point, lead author Emily Grijalva, PhD, associate professor of org and human resources, contends that the absence of women in executive positions could be partially caused by discrepancies in perceiving femininity and authority.

Grijalva explained her theory:

“Individuals tend to observe and learn gender roles from a young age, and may face backlash for deviating from society’s expectations. In particular, women often receive harsh criticism for being aggressive or authoritative, which creates pressure for women, more so than for men, to suppress displays of narcissistic behavior.”

In 2014, another narcissism study was released, led by Brad Bushman, professor of communication and psychology at Ohio State University. Accordingly, narcissism is an issuer for both individual and society. The individuals who perceive themselves as extraordinary don’t attempt to improve themselves. Also, the study noted that narcissism is not good for society either because individuals who are only concerned with their own person and their own particular interests are less likely to help others.

Bushman and associates at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy came up with a test for narcissism that comprised basically of one inquiry: “To what extent do you agree with this statement: ‘I am a narcissist.'”
