Elderly woman allegedly shot children because they were too noisy.
Californian authorities have recently arrested an 84-year-old woman for trying to gun down three children who were playing outside their house. The woman has been charged with child endangerment, assault with a firearm, and is currently being held at the Shasta County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
Elderly Woman Allegedly Tried to Kill Children in Presence of Parents
According to the police report, on Friday, the authorities were summoned by a caller who told the emergency dispatcher that an elderly woman attempted to gun down her children. Upon arriving at the location, the authorities took 84-year-old Betty Frances Sanders into custody. During her police interview, the elderly woman said she grew tired of listening to the family’s kids, ages 8, 9, and 10 playing outside their house as they made too much noise trying to ride their toy motorcycles.
Allegedly, the woman left her house, revolver in hand, and went towards the fence where Angela Rollins, the children’s mother was watching her children. According to Sanders, she told Rollins that the children were much too noisy and that she needed to do something about it. Seconds later, the two women began to argue. Tired of listening to the woman, Sanders took her gun, pointed it towards the family and fired a single round.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the shooting, but, according to Rollins, the elderly woman was no more than 20 feet away from her children when she discharged her weapon.
Conclusion
Rollins immediately notified the authorities who took Sanders into custody. When confronted with her actions, the elderly woman admitted taking her handgun but said that she merely wanted to scare the children, not kill them. For her deeds, the woman was booked into the Shasta County Jail and charged with child endangerment and assault with a firearm.
