Facebook is doing its spring cleaning, apparently! We’ve learned yesterday that it’s planning to update and change much of its privacy settings and today we’ve got more big news concerning the world’s largest and most popular social media website: users won’t be able to send messages through the Facebook Mobile App anymore, for that, they’ll need to install another app altogether, the Facebook Messenger app.
Facebook Messenger App – What and Why?
Up until now, there were two ways Facebook users could send messages to their Facebook friends from their mobile devices: using the Facebook Mobile App or the Facebook Messenger App. People could choose to either whether or not to download the separate messenger app, but in two weeks’ time they are going to need to download the Facebook Messenger App if they want to message their Facebook friends from their smartphones.
The reason behind this quite shocking decision is, we believe, Facebook’s desire to integrate voice or video calling from mobile devices. Also, Facebook bought WhatsApp for $19 billion. Did you think it was just going to keep it in its pocket and not do anything with it? Most likely WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger will merge to create a wonderful monster that will help users communicate more effectively.
Facebook has a different story for its users: apparently, it’s solely for the benefit of its customers, as people get messages 20% faster on the Facebook Messenger App than on the Facebook Mobile App.
Even if you’re not too happy about the split, you’re going to need to download the app, because so many of your Facebook friends are using it too and it is going to be the only way you will be able to message them on Facebook.
Download the Facebook Messenger App for iOS or Android and tell us your thoughts about it in the comment section below. Are you upset that you won’t be able to send direct messages through the Facebook Mobile App or are you happy with the Facebook Messenger App?
