Instagram flags those posts which promote the exploitation of wildlife
Instagram cares about wildlife, so users are now warned whenever they stumble upon a hashtag which might promote animal exploitation. Before they are showed the content associated with the particular hashtag, they will receive a warning informing them they might be viewing a harmful behavior toward animals. All these attempts come just in time for the celebration of Wildlife Conservation Day.
Instagram cares about wildlife
People love animals, and you can stumble upon a photo of someone next to a furry beauty anytime. However, these people might sometimes promote some unhealthy behaviors for animals without even knowing. Therefore, the company has just launched the campaign Protect Wildlife on Instagram.
Through this campaign, Instagram will identify all hashtags related to animals, and which might highlight an exploitative behavior. Whenever a user is searching for such a hashtag, they will receive a message before viewing the posts containing the hashtag in question.
The message informs them the upcoming posts might promote animal exploitation, and that Instagram doesn’t support such behaviors. Afterwards, users can choose what they want to do next. They can stop searching for the hashtags, find out more about the campaign and animal abuse, or go on viewing the posts in question.
The campaign will flag all hashtags related to wildlife
By launching this campaign, Instagram hopes people will now think twice before photographing wildlife. Also, they might think more about their living conditions, and of those which might end up the victims of abuse or exploitation. An animal photo might attract followers, but it’s not always the right thing to post.
From now on, the warning message will appear any time a wildlife hashtag is concerned. This advisory will shortly become available for all iOS and Android users. Also, anyone who views a post which might be unsuitable for animal conservation efforts is encouraged to report it.
