Kim Jong Un All Set to Launch North Korea’s First Smartphone, Android Clone On the Way

The isolated country of North Korea is in a league of its own. After developing an Android tablet, North Korea is all set to launch the first smartphone for its citizen. By the way, the people of the country are not allowed to access the internet.

The new smartphone in the making is called Arirang. Arirang is Korea’s famous folk song. Tech experts have reported that the phone is definitely going to be an Android clone. Even though the phone is being constructed in North Korea, experts believe that the phone won’t be entirely manufactured in Korea and it will seek assistance from China for developing the new handset.

Arirang-North Korea Smartphone

In the past weekend, Kim had gone to a factory at Pyongyang where the new smartphone is under construction. The photos that we have got for you were released by the North Korean news agency. The specifications of the phone have not been revealed yet by the country which is best known for keeping secrets.

After threatening the world in March and April that it would be firing nuclear missiles, the country has taken a sabbatical from disturbing the world peace. The only thing known about the new cellphone is that is going to be touchscreen device and high resolution camera.

When Kim Jong Un visited the factory, he examined the performance and quality of Arirang. He encouraged the employees for showing their enthusiasm in building the new handset. He also desires to produce the phone in huge numbers which will kickstart the production other new phones as well.  The application which has been built in Korean style received appreciation from Kim. The application is said to offer strict security to its users.

The phone will be manufactured in China and then sent to Korea where we feel workers will pretend as if they are the ones who have developed the phones.  About the same, North Korean analyst Martyn Williams expressed that the phones will be ordered from a China based manufacturer and then they will shipped to the country at its Pyongyang factory where they will examine the devices before putting it on sale.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un visits the May 11 Factory

Tech analysts feel that North Korean officials do not want the citizens of the country to get from phones another country. They want the people of the country to use home-made cheap phones that are officially approved by them. The demand for smartphones has considerably increased in the recent past. By producing smartphones in his own country, Kim will make the handsets easily accessible to the people who are under his control.

By looking at the photos, one may feel that the development of the phone has already completed and it’s only in its testing stage. They haven’t released any photo that shows that the handsets are being manufactured at the factory. This makes it quite evident that Kim is relying on its Chinese manufacturer to develop the phone.

Foreigners who visit the country are allowed to use 3G connectivity but the people of the country are still not allowed to use internet liberally. Kim has always been unpredictable but the idea of manufacturing smartphones indicate that he may be in the plan of offering better connectivity to its people.
