Every women wonder of healthy and beautiful hair. Scientists say way to healthy and beautiful tresses is a happy marriage.

Scientists say, a healthy lifestyle is necessary for the health of hair. Stress and depression besides poor food habits could end up in loosening your lovely locks.

The study has linked stress due to separation from husbands as one of the cause of hair loss in women. The study found that women who have lost their husbands due to death or divorce and so are more stressed face a higher risk of midline (central) hair loss. Contrarily, women who have stable marriages are less likely to experience hair loss.

Usually hair loss is attributed to age or genes. But this study of male and female identical twins has found that environmental or lifestyle factors like stress, smoking, heavy drinking and sun exposure could also trigger hair loss, especially for women.

Apart from separation from spouses, women who indulged in heavy drinking and/or smoking also increased their risk of hair loss.

While in men, genes play a bigger role in hair loss although some lifestyle factors also affect it. Men, who drink or smoke or have a cancer history or are less active or face more sun exposure or stress, have a higher risk of hair fall.

Study

Bahman Guyuron, MD, a plastic surgeon at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, carried study on 90 male and 98 female identical twins.

The researchers say the study was carried on twins as they are genetically destined to have the same number of hairs and if one has fewer, it means that it is related to outside factors.

Each pair of twins was surveyed through a questionnaire in which their lifestyle habits were tried to be analyzed. Their hormone blood level testing was also done followed by an extensive photo analysis of their hair. The researchers minutely studied the hair pattern of the twins to understand who have them maximum.

The researchers found that those in stable marriages had more hair than their twin who was divorced or widowed.
