Researchers have uncovered a massive waterfall in Antarctica.
STATES CHRONICLE – Researchers unveiled a massive waterfall in Antarctica. The discovery in Antarctica worries scientists. Such a thing should have never existed there. When you say Antarctica, you expect everything to be frozen, but, instead, you find out that a waterfall was discovered there. Isn’t this weird? Climate change has such a great impact on this part of the globe that the melting process is producing at a fast pace.
The massive waterfall formed due to extensive drainage water
Researchers at Columbia University’s Earth Institute stated that they have recently made a terrible discovery, watching the fast pace of melting getting even more quickly. The new findings were published in the Nature journal and indicated that massive amount of meltwater have increased in some parts of Antarctica. Scientists at the Earth Institute also released a video showing that they unveiled a 400-foot wide waterfall which formed because a river of meltwater cascaded down the Nansen Ice Shelf.
The Nansen ice shelf is known to be a massive glacier which is thirty miles long and ten miles wide. The new finding suggests that the real problem concerning global warming is not in the future, but in the present, affecting a large part of Antarctica. Scientists are worried about the rising temperatures which are only bound to increase the amount of meltwater even more.
The 400-foot wide waterfall is the result of massive amounts of meltwater which accumulated there
In the new survey which encapsulated data from the whole continent, experts unveiled that huge drainages of meltwater flowing the remaining ice layers during the short summer. Scientists were already aware of these unfortunate features, but they believed that these changes were not as widespread as they really were, affecting the whole continent.
These extensive drainages seem to be fuelled by slight rises in temperature. Unfortunately, this could influence the rise of the global sea water level, affecting the whole planet. Another study which was recently developed analyzed how these systems may influence the great ice shelves. Some experts are afraid that these massive ice shelves would collapse, triggering a terrible sea level rise.
They have documented some of the Antarctic melt streams from the early 20th century. Nevertheless, no expert knew how extensive these systems could be. Researchers developed systematically cataloged images of surface water starting from 1947 until the present day. Thus, they discovered about seven hundred seasonal systems of linked channels, ponds and streams crossing the continent.
Do you still believe that climate change is a legend or a hoax? What do you think that authorities should do to stop global warming?
