Along with the new Galaxy S5, Samsung has come up with some new candies for the gadget lovers. Although it’s not the first time they released watches, last September they’ve launched their Galaxy Gear, Samsung announced three more follow-ups including the Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, both smartwatches, plus a fitness band for your wrist called Galaxy Gear Fit. It seems like Samsung would like to compete with other popular fitness trackers like the Fuelband from Nike and Fitbit.
The new smartwatches from Samsung revealed connect through Bluetooth to your smartphone and deliver notifications from the watch to your phone, letting you make all sort of activities from your smartwatch directly into the phone. When Galaxy Gear first appeared it was not pretty well received because of its functions and battery time. But with these three new gadgets, Samsung wants to make it up.
Galaxy Gear 2 is a direct follow-up to their first smartwatch. Although not very different than the first one, an important aspect they improved must be the size, since the first Galaxy Gear was not very comfortable. Samsung repaired the size problem by moving the camera, microphone and speaker around the screen edges, instead of the strap. This way the smartwatch allows you the change the straps and match the outfit you’re wearing at the time. An IR sensor was added so that you can control most TV stations from your wrist.
The other new smartwatches from Samsung revealed – Galaxy Neo 2
This model doesn’t have a camera and it’s made out of plastic, unlike the metal Galaxy Gear 2. This esthetic difference saves you at least 100$ and it’s the only major difference between the two Galaxy watches. Both have the same hardware, a display of 1.63 inch, same as the Gear 1. Another big improvement is the battery that now lasts three days. It also includes the remote control that works for 17 Galaxy devices.
The most exciting news is Samsung Gear Fit, which will gain a top spot amongst the acclaimed fitness bands. It includes the curved display called AMOLED which is more comfortable around the wrist and notifies the smartphone directly, serving also as a mini-watch. The Gear Fit weighs only 29 g and comes with replaceable bands. As the other Galaxy Gear 2 devices, the Gear Fit comes with a pedometer and heart-rate monitor.
The new smartwatches from Samsung will be released on April 11.
