The as yet unconfirmed phablet from Nokia, its Lumina 1520 model has been under wraps but leaks from a different source gives us some insight into what the device would turn out to be. Details relating to price of the product when launched and some of the hardware have been leaked by one of Nokia’s Chinese partners. Whether the leak was purely accidental or intentional is anybody’s guess right now though this isn’t the first time we are getting to see a yet-to-be launched device appearing on a Chinese site.
Much like a jigsaw puzzle and its pieces, the “Bandit” – as the phablet from Nokia goes by name – is slowly forming into a complete picture. First rumors in August spoke about the Windows 8 device having a Qualcomm processor with the display of 6 inch and 1080p resolution. What has to be kept in mind is that Windows Phone OS at that time did not have support for these specs, so that list appears to have been quite off the track.
Things however changed when Microsoft recently announced the launch of their higher Windows Phone 8 OS in its version 3. This new update has support for Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor as well as screen size up to 6 inches with resolutions up to 1080p which were not there in the previous version of the OS. With these aspects factored in, it appears the Nokia Lumina 1520 specifications mentioned by the Chinese retailer have suddenly taken real form.
Nokia had been restricted in this aspect owing to the OS it was using on its mobile devices. Unconfirmed information therefore is that the new phablet would have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip with a 6 inch screen and a camera of 20 MP resolution. The camera is also supposed to have PureView feature to it. The Chinese retailer has also mentioned that it would be carrying a price tag of 4,999 Yuan which converts to approximately $820.
The pricing and the specs indicate that both Microsoft and Nokia have taken heed of the market demand and are coming out with a product that would match by hardware. Big size smartphones or phablets are definitely in and there is a flurry of activity to be witnessed in this segment lately. While the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is leading the segment right now, Sony has also launched the Xperia Z1 Ultra in this segment. HTC too is follow suit with its One Max device while rumor has it that Apple too is developing a phablet version of its iPhone.
