The entire Idaho community bemoans Officer Greg Moore’s Death which occurred this morning at Kootenai Health Hospital in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at 5:50 p.m. The veteran police officer fell victim to a 26-year-old gunman on early Tuesday morning.
Officer Greg Moore was performing a regular patrol routine around the Coeur d’Alene neighbor at 1:30 on Tuesday when he was deadly injured by the suspect. According to witnesses, Moore approached the suspect with the intention to identify him, but the man refused to comply with the police officer’s orders.
People living in Coeur d’Alene have specifically requested that the police perform regular patrols on their streets after the neighbors have dealt with several car thefts. Greg Moore has spotted a stolen police cruiser and called for help in the area.
He followed the stolen vehicle during a 125 mph race. The man, who allegedly stole the car was found hiding underneath a truck after police dogs have sniffed him.
The ensuing fire exchange has left Sargent Greg Moore with fatal wounds. He was shot around 1:30 a.m. and immediately brought to the hospital to receive the necessary medical care.
The suspect was identified as Jonathan Renfro of Rathdrum and according to the police investigation, the man had many other criminal records besides the charges he has recently received.
He was imprisoned at the jail in Kootenai County, Idaho after being charged with attempted murder, theft of a police vehicle and an officer’s gun. The bail was set to 2 million $ and it is very unlikely that someone will ever pay the gunman’s caution.
His first appearance in court took place on Tuesday afternoon, after Jonathan Renfro was captured.
Police officers and Greg Moore’s colleagues expect authorities to increase charges now that the Sargent’s death has been made official. Moreover, the suspect was on probation, so it is very likely that he will soon return to jail.

Crowds of people have gathered in Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday evening to light candles for the deceased veteran and to express their regret for the ex-police officer’s family.
Sargent Greg Moore was a 16-year veteran of the Idaho Police Department. He was a husband and a father of two. His police career started in 1997, in Asotin County, Washington; in 1999 he moved to Coeur d’Alene where he continued working as a community officer.
