It seems like every device these days is getting smart. Or smarter. The phones got smarter a while ago. Books got thinner and lost its pages. Watches don’t just show us the time, but also our e-mails. Now it’s time for our toothbrushes to show us how smart they really are.
The new Oral-B smart toothbrush presents a toothbrush that communicates with your smartphone, rating your oral hygiene. This electric toothbrush called the SmartSeries keeps track of how correctly and efficiently you brush your teeth. As if we didn’t know how to do that. Well, some don’t. Do you want to know how this toothbrush teaches us how to brush our own teeth? It’s quite simple. You download the app on your smartphone and you start brushing your teeth. As you’re brushing, the toothbrush gives you feedback in real time on how well or not so well you’re doing it: it will announce if you missed a spot or if you’re pressing too hard by reducing its speed. The toothbrush app is set to last 2 minutes, which is the correct length of time for a healthy brushing.
After you finished brushing, the app rates you, based on time and on how well you flossed and rinsed your mouth. Then it scores you: if you brushed accordingly you get a trophy or if you haven’t done a great job, the app gives you a frowny emoticon.
Oral-B smart toothbrush puts a smile on your face
Although Oral-B calls it the first smart toothbrush, we remember seeing a similar product funded by Kickstarter called the Kolibree, last month, in Las Vegas, at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The Oral-B smart toothbrush called the SmartSeries costs around $365 and it will be made available later this year.
So what comes next after the smart toothbrush? The smart dental floss?
