New York lowered the organ donation age at 16

STATES CHRONICLE – Organ donation is, sometimes, the only hope people have when they are struggling a chronic disease. Unfortunately, there are so many people who need help and a few who would donate. Moreover,  most of the American are not donating blood either.

The authorities tried to change things and help those people who really need an organ donation.  That is why New York will lower the age at which drivers can register to become organ donors. People won’t have to be 18 years-old anymore, 16 will be the new limit. The officials said that there are thousands of New Yorkers who are waiting for a new liver or a new heart and this law should help them. In six months, all the people who apply for a learner’s permit to drive will be able to register as organ donors. There are 47 states that do not have any restriction on the minimum age.  We are hoping that this change will improve the situation and more people will donate. New York has so many patients who need help and the waiting list is too big. Of course, you can go to another state where the list is shorter.

Some people are afraid of becoming an organ donor . There are some advantages and you should know them before saying you do not want to donate. First of all, you can save a life. It is said that one organ donor can save eight lives. If you have ever wanted to be a superhero, this is your chance. Those who will get the organs will have a normal life.  They will not be in pain anymore, they will be able to see their children growing up and enjoy life.

We know that losing a person you love is one of the most difficult things ever. You will feel better if you know that your loss might help to save the life of another person. You won’t have to pay anythings as an organ donor, just register and if you can help a person, do it as soon as possible.  Think of this: you can save someone’s life. There are thousands of people who die while waiting for a transplant. The right donor is hard to find especially when there are not so many people who want to help. You could be a hero for someone.
