Ex-restaurant cook admitted to pouring lye in sauce because he was not happy with his job.
Florida authorities recently arrested and sentenced a former restaurant employee to seven years in prison for trying to poison clients. Upset with the management, the former restaurant cook spiked the locale’s house-made sauce with plumber’s lye.
Lye – Laden Sauce Discovered by Restaurant’s Owner
Being the owner of a respected locale is not only hard but potentially deadly, as one Florida restaurant owner has learned. Hibachi Express owner told the authorities that one day he was checking the pots containing the restaurant’s famous Yum Yum sauce when something unexpected happened.
According to the owner, as soon as he took a spoonful of the sauce, he felt a burning sensation in his mouth. Alarmed that the batch of sauce could potentially poison his clients, the restaurant owner rushed to the security room in order to see what happened with the sauces.
Upon revealing the security footage, the man was shocked to discover that his cook intentionally poured a substance retrieved from the cleaning cabinet in the pots. According to the Florida authorities, the man who appears on tape is 54-year-old Margarito Padilla, the restaurant’s former cook.
Shortly after seeing the tapes, the restaurant’s owner notified the authorities who, in turn, arrested the cook.
When Padilla was confronted with his potentially fatal deed, the man simply replied that he and the restaurant’s owner had an outfall and that he was unhappy with his job. The events which could have probably led to tragedy occurred last year in June and Padilla was sentenced at the beginning of February.
Conclusion
As part of his deal with the prosecutors, the man pleads guilty to the charge of pouring lye in the sauces. Padilla was found guilty as charged and sentenced to seven years in prison. Perhaps the restaurant’s owner will think twice before upsetting the cook.
