Pope Francis has planned a visit to the United States is the autumn of 2015. In that period, there will also be a meeting between the pontiff and the president of the United States, Barrack Obama, according to an announcement by the White House, transmitted on Thursday morning.
The official date of the meeting is September 23. It will take place during Pope Francis` visit to the United States. The pontiff`s visit in America has the purpose of getting Pope Francis in contact with the Catholics in the region. As head of the Catholic Church around the globe, it is one of his duties to meet periodically with believers in all regions of planet Earth.
According to information made public by the White House, the main issue that will be discussed by the two leaders will be regarding the situation of the poor. President Barrack Obama will reason upon the ways that economic advance could be made available to anyone. Caring for the ones who struggle with financial problems will also be included in the list of subjects the two leaders will bring to the table.
The problem of the environment protection and ways to make the people aware of its importance will also be discussed. Another subject will be in connection with the religious minorities` problem, their situation and a policy of promoting religious freedom all over the world. Welcoming and integrating the immigrants will be discussed as well.
The last meeting between Obama and Pope Francis happened last year, in March. That time, Barrack Obama was the guest of Pope Francis, as the meeting took place at the Vatican. Similar subjects were debated within the March 2014 talk, but the two leaders have also discussed the problem of the Syrian conflict.
During their 2014 meeting, President Obama was offered by Pope Francis two tokens. One of them was a symbol of friendliness, cooperation and peace between the northern and southern hemispheres. The other one was the `Joy of the Gospel`, the apostolic incentive for a new age of caring for the poor.
President Obama offered a gift to the Pope as well. Mr. Obama gave him a chest of seeds that are used in the garden of the White House.
“If you have a chance to come to the White House, we can show you our garden as well,”
Barrack Obama told the Pope last year.
