The second generation Nexus 7 has just released and already it is being called as the best seven inch tablet ever. Its specs are impressive and the benchmarks are even more impressive. However, rumors about the third generation Nexus 7 have already started. The 2nd gen Nexus 7 is an Asus device. However, according to a recent rumor, Google will be dumping Asus and it will be offering an LG product as the third gen Nexus 7.
Tech experts are little doubtful about the new rumor mainly because LG has not released a single tablet yet. Currently, LG’s major revenue making products are Android powered smartphones and Smart TVs. The rumor has been brought to light by a famous tech analyst named Ming Chi Kuo. He has been consistently right on the rumors he released about Apple products. He had also successfully foretold about the components that is present on Google Nexus 7 which was released recently.
Kuo claimed that Google and LG will work together to produce display design in the next year. Google has already worked with LG in the past. The Nexus 4 is an LG product. So, there is a possibility that Google will want LG to produce a Nexus tablet for them.
By partnering with LG, Google will be able to take advantage of LG Display which currently supplies display panels that are used by Apple in many of its iDevices. By working with LG, the competition between Nexus tablets and iPads will become fiercer.
For iPads, Apple is making use of Samsung Display. On iPhone, iPod Touch and Macbook Pro, the Cupertino company is using LG Display. The much anticipated Apple iPad Mini second generation edition will be come with Samsung Display. The device is expected to come out in the market at first or second quarter of 2014.
Google will definitely not do away with Asus but the search giant may come out with a new form factor tablet from LG. The Nexus tablet is available as 7 inch device and 10.1 inch device. However, there is no 8 inch Nexus device yet. Many other companies are already offering similar form factor tablets such as iPad Mini from Apple, Kindle Fire HD from Amazon and Iconia W3 from Acer.
Since leading tech companies like Apple, Amazon and Acer are already offering tablets that measure around 8 inch, we can understand that there is definitely a market for this kind of tablet. It is bigger than 7 inch tablets and less bulky than 10 inch tablets. Even though the 7 inch and 10 inch Nexus tablets have some flaws, both the Google tablets have achieved lot of popularity, but an 8 inch tablet will also be able to achieve similar sort of popularity.
What do you think about this new rumor? Will it come true? The third generation Nexus 7 may not be released this year and we may only see it in the next year but still the rumor mill has started pouring out rumors on the successor model for 2nd generation Nexus 7.
