It is a well-known fact that PC sales are falling considerably because people are switching to portable devices like tablets and laptops. Samsung is doing well in the tablet sector with its Galaxy Tab products. At the Samsung Premiere 2013 which was held on the 20th of June, Samsung announced a new tablet-hybrid device called the Samsung Ativ Q.

The Samsung Ativ Q runs on two operating systems namely Windows 8 and Android OS. It surely is the major USP of the device. Some may feel that the combination of two operating systems on the device may not be good. However, the device when unveiled at the event revealed how both operating systems performed seamlessly on the hybrid tablet from Samsung.

Another good thing about having both operating systems on the Samsung Ativ Q is that it seamlessly allows you to share files and folders across both operating systems. This means any file you create or save on Windows 8 OS can be viewed on the Android platform. Samsung has done well in allowing the users of Ativ Q to switch between Windows 8 and Android. All you need to do is click on a dedicated tile on Windows 8 and within a couple of seconds you will be on the Android platform. This means you do not need to restart the device to switch to the other OS.

Previously, the only device that offered both Windows 7 and Android OS was the Lenovo IdeaPad U1. It was a 10inch device. The new Samsung Ativ Q is called the Mix and is going to be priced at $500. The Samsung Ativ Q sports a 13inch display and it supports 3200 x 1800 pixels. It is powered with the latest Haswell CPU.

The Samsung Ativ Q also comes with a S-Pen. The tablet comes with a hinge which make allows you to fold the display in such that you can use it as a laptop or also you can simply use it like a tablet. Samsung did not announce anything on the price of the Ativ Q. However, the device is expected to hit the stands later this year. The only concern with the device is that the Android OS has become a sitting duck to malware attacks. So, with good security onboard, the device is surely going to prompt other manufacturers follow on its footsteps.
