Every now and then we often come across displays that exhibit varying degrees of flexibility. Manufacturers come up with such things perhaps to let consumers know they are always up to something exciting while also being seen they are pushing the frontiers of advanced technology. But the fact remains, we are yet to come across a viable product that boasts of a flexible display. This in spite of there being several advantages of such displays that exhibit flexibility.
Both the Korean companies of LG and Samsung had showcased flexible displays in the past with the successive variants of Samsung’s flagship devices, the S3 and S4 were rumored to carry such displays. Even the Note 3 device too was earlier slated to come with a flexible display though that seems to have been put on the back burner. But then, it’s another day and we are faced with a fresh rumor of Samsung now developing a tablet featuring a flexible display.
At least, a recent patent filing by Samsung does point out to just such a device. The US Patent and Trademark Office too revealed a set of images which provides us with a glimpse of what Samsung might have for us in a few years time. The device right now is being referred to as the Samsung Tablet PC though analysts believe that is just a moniker and the device might well emerge as the Galaxy Tab 4.
As is evident from the images, the device features a flexible display that folds down along a pre-designated part. This gives rise to one part that acts both as a stand as well as an on-screen keyboard so that the entire device takes up the form factor of a mini laptop or a notebook. Also, with it being Windows 8 based tablet devices that require a specific keypad unit to make the best that the Microsoft operating system has to offer, it can well be assumed the Samsung Tablet in question could be seen running the Windows OS.
Lastly, what also has to be kept in mind is that not all patent filings eventually emerge as a commercial product.
