Samsung has managed to make first move on smartwatch before Apple rolls out the iWatch. Samsung announced the arrival of their first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear on September 4 during the Samsung Unpacked event that was held in Berlin.
Before the Galaxy Note released, we all knew it that the device could be used along with a smartphone. However, Samsung has done something that was expected. The Galaxy Gear smartwatch can be used only with Galaxy Note 3 and the new Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 tablet). The users of Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 will also support the Galaxy Gear only when these devices are updated with Android 4.3. Like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the Galaxy Gear will be released in more than 140 countries. The new smartwatch is going to be available in United States in early weeks of October.
At the beginning of the year, the Pebble smartwatch had released and it managed to make good moolah. And next came the Sony’s SmartWatch that was revealed in April 2013. It is yet to release in United States. On the 27th of Aug, 2013, Lee Young Hee who is the Vice President of Samsung Mobile had made it known that the Galaxy Gear will be unleashed at the Samsung Unpacked event on Sept 4’s IFA event. Many had expected that the device will sport a bendable display but its sports a regular display and the device has been made only to enhance the existing smart mobile experience.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear comes with 1.63inch display that supports 320 x 320 pixels resolution. It supports 277 ppi. The device is powered with dual-core 800MHz Exynos CPU and Mali-400 GPU. It is coupled with 512MB RAM. The internal storage space on the Samsung Galaxy Gear is 4GB. The manufacturers of the device have slotted the 1.9MP camera on the wristband of the smartwatch. As far as connectivity is concerned, users are provided with options like Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Wi-Fi. It packs in a 315mAH battery that can last up to 24 hours on a single charge.
Samsung is offering the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in different colors like jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Biege, Rose Gold and Lime Green. The device runs on a customized edition of Android. The wearable computer has got plenty of apps onboard such as dialer, chatON, S Health, Notification, RunKeeper, Tripit, EverNote, Vivino Wine, eBay and Path.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear is going to be priced at $299 in US. To use the device, one needs to establish connection between the smartwatch and a smartphone like the Galaxy Note 3. And then without removing the smartphone from the pocket, users will be able to view new notifications and reply incoming messages and calls through the smartwatch.
