Tech experts are of the view that the next big thing to hit the technology world is wearable tech devices. Since quite some time, it was in the news that Apple would be releasing a wearable gadget called the iWatch. However, now it seems that the Korean tech giant which has always been in loggerhead with Apple for patent issues and what not, is going to release its wearable gadget called the Samsung Galaxy Gear in this week.
In this week, the Samsung Unpacked 2013 will be held at the IFA event on September 4. The event will mark off the launching of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy Gear. Those of you who are wondering what the Samsung Galaxy Gear would appear like will get to know everything about the device and its features during the forthcoming event.
Recently, VentureBeat blog posted several photos of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch but later on it was found that those were images of prototype devices. On examining the photos posted on the popular blog, it was found that the original device will be quite different from what has been portrayed through the images.
According to VentureBeat, the Samsung Galaxy Gear is going to feature a 3inch display screen. The chassis of the device has got in-built speakers. There is a 4MP camera also present on the strap of the device. The smartwatch does not weigh much and is not at all bulky but the popular tech blog describes it as ‘clunky’. However, the wrist strap of the smartwatch is somewhat bulky.
According to VentureBeat, the device will contain some of the useful apps from Samsung such like health apps such as a pedometer and monitoring app for heartbeat and calorie counting app. Also the device will support Samsung S Voice commands. The device will be running on a customized version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system. Some of the other features include Bluetooth LE compatibility, Wi-Fi, NFC and internet browsing.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear can be connected to a smartphone through Bluetooth. Once a Bluetooth connection has been established, one can easily make or receive calls through the smartwatch. Also, you do not need to remove your handset from the pocket to check notifications. All the incoming notifications will be shown on the display of the smartwatch.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear’s battery can run for 24 hours on a single charge. The 3inch display of the device is large enough to show 2 lines of text with icons showing at the top of the screen. The release of the Samsung Galaxy Gear is set on September 4 alongside Galaxy Note 3. The news has been confirmed by Lee Young-Hee who is the executive VP of Samsung Mobile.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear may appear a small piece of gadget but it will be powered by Samsung Exynos 4212 dual-core 1.5GHz processor powered with Mali-400 MP4 graphics processing unit. At the moment, Samsung Galaxy Gear has no competition but very soon Sony will launch its SmartWatch2 on sale. The Apple iWatch is speculated to arrive in 2014. Even Motorola is believed to be working on the next version of MOTOACTV.
