The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition was unveiled recently which is powered with stock Android operating system with an unlocked bootloader. And now Samsung is working on a Developer Edition of Samsung Galaxy S4. The Developer Edition will be available two leading carriers of US, AT&T and Verizon.
You may be curious to how does the Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition stand different from the original Samsung Galaxy S4. In United States, the Galaxy S4 comes with locked bootloader. This will now allow you to install custom ROM; however, it is not impossible. The Developer Edition is a special version of Galaxy S4 which will be made available with unlocked bootloader. This will allow you to install custom ROM and tweak your S4 according to your requirement.
When Galaxy S4 was made available on AT&T’s network, customers came to know that the bootloader was locked. So, people who wanted to tweak their phone with custom ROM were disappointed. Even the Verizon version of Galaxy S4 comes with unlocked bootloader.
However, Samsung is soon going to offer both AT&T and Verizon that will allow people to get bootloader unlocked on the Developer Edition which is powered with stock Android OS. The Developer Edition is now being showcased on Samsung’s website as it says “Coming Soon! Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon), Black Mist Developer Edition”
The Developer Edition seems to a special edition of Galaxy S4. So, buyers may have to shell out more to purchase it as compared to regular version of S4. However, we feel that many people may not be interested in buying the Developer Edition mainly because Verizon is already offering Galaxy S4 with unlocked bootloader. Also, in the month of June, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus with unlocked bootloader will available through Google Play Store and that too AT&T and T-Mobile networks.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is undoubtedly the most popular smartphones in the market. It comes with 5 inch full HD Super AMOLED display, quad-core CPU, 13MP camera, Android 4.2. Jelly Bean OS and latest edition of Samsung TouchWiz UI. The Developer Edition is powered with stock Android OS which means it will not have TouchWiz UI. This will help in providing you with much internal storage space as TouchWiz UI consumes a lot of disk space.
What will be the price of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition? Though there is no official information on the price on Samsung’s website, we feel the device will be priced at $650.
