HTC Releases Android 4.4 KitKat Update For HTC One Google Play Edition

November 27, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

HTC is going to update its HTC One Google Play Edition to Android 4.4 KiKat version very soon. There has been no official statement forthcoming from HTC announcing the date of release of the update though some users have already started receiving thee update. There are no screen shots available as yet from these few users to shed some more light about the update or to give us an idea of what its after installation features would be.  But information received indicates the update to be a bit hefty at 320 MB and has been released over the air.

HTC had also indicated January as the month for the Android 4.4 Kitkat update to be getting through. So the update could most probably be a developer’s niche as of now. HTC in all likelihood would release the full update for all its devices at the scheduled January time period only.

There are two phones which had been released via Google Play store at about the same time, the HTC One Google Play and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition. When would the Samsung Galaxy Google Play Edition get its KitKat update is to be seen though as of now, HTC has indeed beaten Samsung in the update game.

For those who came in late and not aware of the specs that the HTC One Google Play edition carries, it has the Snapdragon 600 processor at its core, a 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. There is the standard microSD card slot for adding extra memory to the device. For network it has NFC, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0.

Android KitKat Update Hits Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 Devices

November 13, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Nexus users have reason to cheer as those that had still not been getting their Android 4.4 KitKat update would be getting so or might have already started to get the update. Nexus 5 users would be getting Android 4.4 KitKat loaded on their devices as it is, for this is the latest in the line up of Google handsets. So far as the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets go, they would be getting their update today. For Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, users would have to yet wait a while longer.

Google released the android KitKat version about a fortnight ago. At its launch time, Nexus 5 was the only device that was being launched by Google and they did load the OS on that device. Google had indicated that past and future devices would all have this OS on it. While the future may have, Google does need to pay more attention to the devices of past. That the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets, which are 2012 and 2013 releases have received their update does show Google’s intent to keep to their word.

There is however a catch to the updating process. Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 which have a mobile data feature in them are not part of the update. Instead, it is only the Wi-Fi enabled devices that would be receiving the update and not the other devices. Dates for the other devices to get their updates have also not been specified by Google.

Another device that Google has completely excluded in their KitKat update is the Galaxy Nexus. There is the issue of one year and half and more that the device had been released and therefore Google not supporting it any further so far as upgrades go. Users of the device however are trying to get Google to allow them as well into the update circle.

After users of the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 have updated their devices to KitKat the actual difference in working of the devices would be known, for it is then that these users are expected to report back their hands-on experiences with the new OS version.

Asus Nexus 10 Release Date with Google Nexus 5 with Android 4.4 KitKat

September 27, 2013 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

The Android 4.4 KitKat release is speculated to occur in October. Tech experts feel that since the Android 4.4 KitKat may arrive in October, even the successor handset for Nexus 4 will arrive in the coming month. Well, the Nexus 5 is not the only Nexus device that is going to be announced soon, rumors have it that even Nexus 10 tablet will be arriving very soon.

The next 10inch tablet is speculated to be an Asus Nexus 10 tablet which will also feature the Android 4.4 KitKat OS. The Asus Nexus 10 is expected to arrive more or less at the same time as Nexus 5. Let us think about last year’s scenario, Google had released four Google products in November.

In November 2012, the Nexus 4 came and succeeded the Galaxy Nexus. Next came the Nexus 7 which pitted against the Apple iPad Mini. The third Google product was the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update which is still to appear on many of the popular smartphones and tablets. Lastly, a 10inch tablet called the Nexus 10 was also rolled out to take on Apple iPad.

Each year Google releases a new Nexus device to replace the existing one. This year too Nexus 7 was replaced by Nexus 7 2013 along with the LTE version. The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has already replaced the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and in the next month or so even it will be replaced by Android 4.4 KitKat.

Google has discontinued the supply of Nexus 4 and retail outlets are only selling the remaining stock if any. This is a clear indication that the Nexus 5 is soon to arrive. Moreover, FCC filing on a new Nexus smartphone also indicates that very soon Google will announces the new Nexus smartphone which is being dubbed as Nexus 5 by most tech blogs.

It is only the Nexus 10 that is left to be replaced by a new tablet this year. As of now, Google has not spoken anything about the new Nexus 10. Well, the Nexus 10 is still available for purchase on Google Play Store. However, it may not remain available after some time.

When the Nexus 7 arrived this year, during the launch event of the said tablet, Sundar Pinchai who is head honcho of Android stated that in the near future that would be rolling out a sequel for Nexus 10. Last year’s Nexus 10 was a Samsung product and according to the recent leaks, the new tablet is expected to be Asus product.

Recently, a new screenshot emerged that clearly indicated that Asus is the one that will manufacture the next Nexus 10 tablet. The screenshot also reveals that the cost of Asus Nexus 10 is going to be higher than that of last year’s product. The screenshot that we have added in this post has originally come from UK retailer Currys. The existing Nexus 10 is priced at £319 and the screenshot shows the price of the Asus Nexus 10 is going to be £349.

As of now, there are no rumors on Google Nexus 10 release date. However, rumors are doing rounds that Google will release Android 4.4 KitKat along with LG Nexus 5 and Asus Nexus 10 on October 14. Also, we do not have any details on the Asus Nexus 10 features and specifications. Once we get to know something concrete, we will share it with you soon.
