LG Offering its G2 Model As Part of its Android Developers Loaner Program

November 6, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson 1 Comment

An LG G2 Smartphone is available for all those developers out there who are interested and are capable of developing Android apps for the G2 model. That LG has decided to select their G2 model to be given as the tool for these developers come as no surprise given the fact that this has been a stellar model that LG is pushing into the market.

LG_G2

Developers who are interested have to go through a three step exercise to qualify for the offer.

At the Android Developers VIP conference conducted by LG in California, they had announced the program of loaning the G2 Smartphone for enthusiastic developers. They had also launched the QRemote SDK at the conference which would help developers with software tools to develop their apps. Possible developers need to sign up for the program and with that they would get the G2 at hand for 30 days duration.

The developer would need to sign up at the LG website and opt for the G2 model for the development work. The developer would need to return the handset to LG at the end of the 30 days loan period with the cost of shipping the device back to be borne by the developer. Regions where the program is available has not yet been announced.

In the words of Cecilia Son who is the head of mobile developers relations in the LG North America region: “When multiple developers followed up after the event, thanking LG for ‘doing it right,’ we know we’re giving them what they want. By providing the Android developer community with a new SDK and the latest LG devices to test their apps on, we’re living up to our brand promise, ‘with LG, it’s all possible.’ We’re giving them the tools to help inspire some great new apps — ones we expect to see on the LG App Store very soon.”

verizon_g2

Next up, it will be Verizon offering the G2, with sales kicking off on September 12. It will also be following a similar pricing structure, which involves paying $199.99 upfront apart from agreeing to a two year warranty. Also, it is only the Verizon version of the G2 that boasts of wireless charging. Verizon has also been in the news for being the last to offer the HTC One in the US. Fortunately, the carrier is prompt this time and is offering the G2 while its still fresh in the market.

Lastly, T-Mobile is slated to offer the G2 starting September 18 from its website while the retail debut will take place on September 25. T-Mobile is also offering the cheapest deal as part of its Simple Choice Plan, requiring the buyer to shell out $99 upfront though users will also be obliged to pay $21 in 24 monthly installments.

As for the device itself, the G2 is already pegged to be among the hottest smartphone device one can buy right now. It’s a powerhouse of a device, thanks to the Snapdragon 800 chip it hides inside. There is also a 2 GB RAM together with an Andreno chipset to be credited for the zippy performance. The G2 also scores on its photographic abilities, with both the 2.2 mp and 13.1 mo camera at the front and rear being capable of recording 1080p quality video.

Another unique aspect of the device is that it includes physical buttons along the rear, a first in a smartphone in recent times.

LG G2 Set For US Debut This Month

September 3, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson 1 Comment

The recently launched LG G2 smartphone is all set to break into the US markets this month itself, revealed company sources. Unfortunately, that is all that the company has stated, leaving us wondering what the latest LG flagship will cost or when exactly the device will be getting to see the day of light on American soil. The wait or the suspense could be worth it, for what you will get to have on the other side of it is a device that has already earned the tagline of being the world’s fastest so far. Coupled to the slick functioning is a sparkling 5.2 inch full HD IPS display that looks so very inviting. The extremely thin bezel on its parts along with the overall excellent build quality too adds to the overall appeal of the device.

LG G2

Apart from the 5.2 inch display, other salient feature of the current LG flagship device include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 which together with the Adreno 330 QSXGA/2160p graphics card and a 2 GB RAM ensures the device is able to ward off anything that is thrown at it with elan. The smartphone comes with 32 GB of internal memory of which about 24 GB will be available to the user. However, the lack of an external memory card slot does act as a dampener.

For the photographers out there, the LG G2 also packs in a 13 mp auto focusing camera at the rear complete with an LED flash as well as optical image stabilization, face detection and other features. The camera will also be able to record 1080 quality videos as well. And to support all of the functionality, the G2 comes with a quite comprehensive 3000mAp battery unit. To let you have an idea of just how comprehensive the battery is, the Galaxy Note 2 comes powered by a 3100mAh unit. The battery on the G2 though is not user removable but has enough juice to support about 15 to even 20 hours of usage.

Another unique quality of the G2 is the placement of the physical switches along the rear which no doubt is a unique design feature.

HTC One Sprint on Sale in Blue From September 10, LG G2, Moto X Next?

August 30, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

How about an HTC One done up in a cool shade of blue? Well, such a thing does seem likely, what with a fresh image of the device sporting the said color having emerged online one more time. As rumor sources have put it, it was first expected to make its appearance on the US based carrier Verizon. But a recent rumor goes by stating that it will be now be available at Sprint. According to the Sprint website, the HTC One Blue will be there for the taking from the 10th of September.

htc-one-blue

The addition of the new color will make Sprint’s HTC One lineup all the more colorful, offers as it does the HTC smartphone in other color options like a brilliant red, silver and the ever sophisticated black. Price remains the same $99 which is inclusive of a two year contract.

The HTC One has already been adjudged the best smartphone of the year (2013) though in an age where technology ages extremely fast, the device could well be considered to be losing its sheen in the face of newer competitors that have entered the fray. It continues to be the gem of a smartphone though it is always the newer devices that attract the most attention. This should apply to the likes of the Moto X, the new Droid series, the LG G2 as well as the new iPhone series expected to be released next month.

In such a scenario, offering the device in different attractive shades does help to keep the lineup fresh and its appeal intact.

LG G2 Release Date – Verizon Launches Sign Up Page after HTC One and Moto X

August 18, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson 1 Comment

It seems Verizon is on a signing up spree. For no sooner had it launched a sign up page dedicated to the HTC One and the Moto X, here comes another one for the recently launched LG G2 device. This should come as a welcome piece of news for Verizon subscribers who are looking forward to the LG G2 release date as they now have a place to register their email id to be informed of the latest development concerning the device.

However, as it has been with the HTC One page, no exact date has been mentioned as to when it shall be available at Verizon. Its subscribers though should be relieved the carrier has started off early with the LG G2 which is unlike how it treated the HTC One. Verizon seems to have woken up to the HTC flagship device only now, months after the same has reached the US via other carriers.

The LG G2 clearly is the hottest smartphone device right now. However, the Verizon version of the G2 seems a bit different from the standard model LG launched earlier this month. The changes though seems limited to the exterior of the device which includes a more prominent camera surround as well as the rear mounted buttons. As for the carrier’s logo, there is one placed at the rear in the middle while another has been placed on the front, along the top right edge. One of the most prominent design features of the LG G2 is the incorporation of buttons at the rear to allow for ease of access.

LG G2

The flagship device from LG comes with a 13 MP camera with image optimization and is powered by a Snapdragon 800 quad core processor. The chip together with a 2 GB RAM makes for a powerful combination which should be enough to allow the device to run more than one application easily and with the least hiccup. LG is also emphasizing on the smartphone’s UI as a major selling factor of the device. The device also features a 5.2 inch full HD display which LG is claiming to be the thinnest in the world.

Meanwhile, LG has confirmed the flagship device on it’s release date will be available via all leading carriers in the US. The device will be up against the Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One as well as the upcoming iPhone variant. Also, Verizon has taken up the LG G2 at a time when Verizon is busy with the upcoming Motorola series of devices, like Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, and Droid X. Apple on the other hand is also planning of launching iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C and Samsung too is bringing forth its latest produce Galaxy Note 3 which will be competing with the large display screen of LG G2.

LG G2 smartphone launched to compete with Samsung

August 10, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson 1 Comment

LG recently announced the launch of its new model G2 smartphone to compete with Samsung and Apple. Strangely, LG is the second biggest vendor of Android OS followed by Samsung. However, the share of LG stands at mere 6% compared to whopping 38% of Samsung. With the launch of G2, LG expects to increase their market share.

LG_G2

Buyers will get to see some of the new features in LG G2. The phone will have a 5.2 inch full HD display with a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It is loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. The device will also have a powerful 13 MP camera with eight times zoom facility. It certainly brings some good news for all the crazy gamers. G2 will have a dedicated RAM meant only for graphics, GRAM. GRAM helps in increasing the battery efficiency by upto 26 percent on a still frame. The 3,000 mAh LG battery allows the phone to last for 1.2 days in a single charge.

However, the most noticeable difference of LG G2 is the difference in the location of power and volume buttons. Instead of placing these buttons at the side of the phone, they are placed at the rear. LG claims that the design was done mainly after studies revealed that most of the users find it difficult to control the side buttons when the screen size is big. Placing these buttons at the rear is certainly the most innovative design by LG. Holding down the volume button switches on the camera while the volume up button opens QuickMemo note taking program. Also, to activate the screen display, the user has to double tap on the screen.

LG G2 is set to hit the market globally in the next eight weeks. It will be available with more than 130 carriers globally.

LG Dumps ‘Optimus’ Brand; New Smartphone to Be Called LG G2

July 18, 2013 By Troy Rubenson 1 Comment

LG is on the verge of launching the successor device for LG Optimus G. However, the official announcement is that the successor device will be called LG G2 which is a clear indication that LG is dumping the ‘Optimus’ brand name. Optimus was the name that marked off premium smartphones from LG.

The LG G2 which is the next smartphone from LG to be unveiled on August 7th at a New York event will simply make use of ‘G’ instead of Optimus. The fact was confirmed by LG on Wednesday by LG Electronics’ President and CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park. It was also announced that LG Optimus Vu line of smartphones that sport 4:3 aspect ratio display will also lose the ‘Optimus’ name and it will be rebranded as ‘Vu.

lg-optimus-g2-lg-g2

The name ‘Optimus’ was introduced in 2010 and since then many LG devices powered with Android and Windows Phone OS have carried the name. We have been hearing a lot about the successor edition for LG Optimus G and we have only heard and seen about it through leaked images, specs and a video. Since the smartphone is going to be unveiled on August 7th, we will only have to wait couple of weeks to lay our hands on it.

LG has already sent out invitations to the media on the August event. It has been also revealed that the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800. Earlier this month, LG had released a video advertisement of LG G2 which offers very little details on the phone. During the press release held on Wednesday, it was announced that the LG G2 with Snapdragon 800 CPU will offer enriching experience, powerful performance, unmatched graphics and excellent battery life.

By releasing the LG G2, the company wishes to raise the bar even higher in delivering the best user experience. Thanks to the positive reputation on the previous LG G series phones, the LG G2 is expected to receive positive feedback. The chipset that will be available on LG G2 is yet to be offered by any other brand. Also, the volume rocker sits at the rear of the phone.

According to the leaks, the LG G2 is going to come with a huge 5.2 inch full HD display and will be powered with 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU along with 2GB RAM. To make sure the phone keeps on running all day long without getting exhausted soon, the makers have packed in a 2540mAh battery. It comes with a 13MP camera at the rear. It will be running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Till now, we have seen a lot of leaked images of LG G2 and as the day of its unveiling draws near we will get to hear more from the rumor mill. The LG G2 is surely LG’s offering to take on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 which is leading the smartphone market currently. We will definitely keep you updated on the latest news on LG G2 as August 7th event nears.

LG Optimus G2 – The Official Successor to Optimus G to Arrive on August 7

July 11, 2013 By Troy Rubenson Leave a Comment

LG is going to launch something in August and we feel that they are going to unveil the successor device for LG Optimus G. So, LG may launch the LG Optimus G2 in August. LG has organized an event on August 7th at New York and has invited the media to be a part of it.

The invitation itself gives you a clue that LG Optimus G2 great-2-have-youthe device that is going to be unveiled at the event is the LG Optimus G2. The invitation says “Great 2 Have You!” The alphabet G and the number 2 have been printed in large font which is a clear indicator of the much awaited Optimus G2 smartphone. Also, LG has released a teaser clip that reads ‘To me you are perfect. From G…” The video does not reveal much but hints you that a new Optimus G will soon be unveiled.

In June, LG had announced that would be releasing LG Optimus successor. The LG Optimus G2 seems to be a very promising smartphone that is going to feature a very wide, edge-to-edge display. The smartphone will feature plenty of unique features that haven’t been provided by any smartphone manufacturer yet. The phone will not have any physical buttons. The volume buttons are placed at the rear below the camera lens. Even the power button is located at the rear.

Till now, all the major brands like Samsung, Sony and HTC have released their flagship device this year. However, LG has yet to make any major announcement this year. Even though they released the LG Optimus Pro earlier this year in some countries, it is no real competition to the likes of Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2. The LG G2 is surely going to be LG’s flagship smartphone this year.

Rumor has it that LG prefers to call the device as G2 and they are going to drop ‘Optimus’ from the name. The LG G2 or the LG Optimus G2, whichever name the manufacturer prefers to call it, is going to be powered by a Snapdragon 800 CPU and it is also going to feature LTE connectivity.

The original Optimus G houses a 4.7 inch IPS display that supports 720p, a mega battery of 2100mAh, and a very slim design. The Optimus Pro is a phablet device from LG that comes with a 5.5 inch display that comes with 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution with 440ppi pixel density.

According to the recent rumors, the LG Optimus G2 is going to feature a 3GB RAM. LG was the first company to launch 2GB RAM powered smartphone when many brands were using 1GB RAM on their devices. Samsung is also going to include 3GB RAM in the upcoming Galaxy Note 3. However, the much awaited phablet is going to be released only after LG G2 comes out in the market. The Snapdragon 800 CPU is going to deliver a staggering speed of 2.3GHz. We hope in the coming weeks, we will come to know more accurate info on the upcoming LG G2.
