We live in an age where phones are getting bigger and bigger. And they also have a name for that. Smartphones as big as a smaller tablet are called phablets. When Samsung released its Galaxy Mega a while back, everyone thought it was a (bad) joke. It was criticized for being too big and underpowered. Since Apple and Google are making bigger devices for their customers, the bigger smartphones have started to be more accepted by the masses.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 could be the new phablet everyone was waiting for. It’s not as big as its predecessor but it comes with basically the same specifications. You can get it from AT&T for $149.99, with a contract, of course.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is considered to be a midrange product and comes all dressed up in faux-chrome sides and a faux-leather backside. The Mega 2 is very solidly built, it has a smaller screen and more manageable than its predecessor: 6,44×3,34×0,34 inches, weighing 6,84 ounces.
Although it doesn’t feel as balanced as Nexus 6, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 it still feels comfortable in the hand and has a nice grip. Inside, the Mega 2 has a 2,800 mAh battery and a a microSD card slot.
Samsung’s new phablet has a 6 inch LCD, smaller than the previous model, which had a 6.3 inch AMOLED display. The resolution is the same, though: 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution. The new one is a little sharper than the last one, with 245 ppi and it has some good colors. Unfortunately, the screen is not very bright and in direct sunlight you might have some problems seeing things on it.
At AT&T the new Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 comes with a 3G GSM connection and a 4G LTE networks. The Mega 2 features a dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi , a Bluetooth connectivity , NFC and GPS.
The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 lasts almost 5 hours, if used to see videos on YouTube with the screen’s brightness set to the maximum. It features a quad-core 1,5GHz Exynos 4415 processor with a 1.5 GB of RAM.
