Yahoo Screen App For Streaming Videos Available On Android Devices

May 4, 2014 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

yahoo screen appYahoo’s new mobile app for streaming videos is now available on Android devices. Yahoo Screen app was launched in September 2013 for IOS users. The news coincides with the announcement of the first two original TV series, “Other Space” (from the creator of Freaks and Geeks) and “Sin City Saints”, a new show about a vet who is trying to build up a basketball team in Vegas. The news series will have eight episodes each and will be available on Yahoo Screen, Apple TV and Roku starting next year.

Yahoo also announced their partnership with Live Nation, meaning that they will stream a live concert every day on Yahoo for a year.

Yahoo is hoping that with these new changes they will compete with other streaming companies like Hulu, Amazon, Google, Netflix, Microsoft and others. All these companies have original programming and exclusive content for their users.

The Yahoo Screen App for Android includes the same features as the IOS version – programming from Comedy Central, SNL, The Onion, Vogue, MLB, ABC News, etc. The interface is also the same. You can navigate the app by swiping up and down in order to change the channels and you can also move between videos with a left/right swiping.

This is not the only update Yahoo has been making recently. They also updated their Yahoo Mail with new features like News and Today at the bottom of the screen which you can personalize in real-time.

Yahoo Screen App For Streaming Videos – the Android version

If you are an Android user you have another streaming video option with the Yahoo Screen app. You can stream a variety of video content including the popular Saturday Night Live, or you can stream the Daily Show from Comedy Central or some South Park. What’s cool about the new version is that the layout is very simple and easy to navigate. You also get social sharing and you can share the details of what you’re watching quite easily on your Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.

We’re still not 100% sure if Android users needed another streaming video app but Yahoo Screen does seem to have a decent content selection, so why not give it a try. Chances are that they will enrich their programming and could become a serious competitor for other video streaming services. Meanwhile, you can get the new Yahoo Screen for Android from the Google Play Store and tell us what you think of it.

Netflix Prices Will Go Up – For New Subscribers, They Say

April 22, 2014 By Janet Vasquez Leave a Comment

netflixThe popular streaming video company has announced on Monday that they are planning to increase their subscription prices for new customers. In the next few months the prices will go up with one or two dollars monthly. Netflix said that their existing subscribers will continue to enjoy the services at the current rate for “a generous time period.”

The current subscribers pay %7.99 a month for a plan introduced in 2010. Netflix has increased the monthly fees for Irish new subscribers by one euro in January and said that the change didn’t have a serious impact.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that Netflix prices will go up as a result of their continuous expansion: “If we want to continue to expand, to do more great original content… we have to eventually increase prices a little bit.” Netflix added 2.25 million new subscribers this year and now has 36 million American subscribers and over 48 million around the world.

The popular TV shows “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black” are two of their original programming that are currently being watched by millions of subscribers. The second season of “House of Cards” debuted in February while season 2 of “Orange is the New Black” will be coming on June 6.

The online video business is becoming very competitive and there are many streaming services with which Netflix competes: HBO Go, Hulu and Amazon Prime Instant Video. When asked about this fact Hastings said that he is a Prime subscriber and that he sees it as being “complementary to Netflix.” Analysts are predicting a major change when it comes to Netflix’s subscription prices and not only for new subscribers.

Netflix Prices Will Go Up – only for new subscribers for the time being

More updates are expected on this announcement as current Netflix subscribers fear that the prices will increase for everyone. As soon as we find out anything new about this we will keep you posted. What are your thoughts on the fact that Netflix prices will go up? Are you currently a subscriber or do you plan to become one in the near future? Do you think that this increase is a fair one and reflects the quality of the services or is it just a marketing strategy? Would you rather use other video streaming services like HBO Go, Hulu or Amazon Prime Instant Video? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
