The Teal Pumpkin Project is meant to help children who suffer from allergies enjoy Halloween treats.
STATES CHRONICLE – The Teal Pumpkin Project is meant to let your trick-or-treaters know that you have healthy treats to offer without kids who suffer from allergies. You have to paint a pumpkin in blue and display it in such a way your visitors could see it. Your little guests will know that even if they are allergic to peanuts, they will still be able to find some delicious sweets when passing by. It is pretty difficult to teach your 2-year-old to paint a pumpkin blue and to explain him or her to what is he or her allergic to.
It is important to let your kid know about his or her allergies as soon as possible. Houses which will display blue pumpkins will offer safe treats to their guests. This project is bound to let local families know that they do not need to worry about their children. The Team Pumpkin Project brings a new type of fun this Halloween allowing trick-or-treaters to enjoy their favorite holiday.
For example, the Reams family has a 6-year-old daughter, Samantha, who is allergic to sesame, tree nuts, and peanuts. This Halloween, Samantha planned to wear a superhero costume. She and her mother are thrilled to see that there are people in their community who are aware of how dangerous peanuts allergies could be.
Typical candies can represent a serious problem to children who cannot touch tree nuts and other products of this kind. Kids who present allergies should not feel excluded from their group of friends, being able to enjoy sweets which are not going to harm them. The most important thing is that children should be aware of their allergies. They will probably need to say to other adults or children that they are allergic when they are offered sweets.
This amazing project started three years ago, and a lot of families have been taking part of it. A worried mother in Tennessee has thought of painting a pumpkin teal, a color which has been associated with food allergies for a long time. The brilliant idea managed to spread and in 2014 the Food Allergy Research & Education has picked up the project. They have created an online map which displayed the houses which offer safe treats. Now any kid can enjoy this holiday properly.
