The web is buzzing about the next generation iPad Mini. The iPad Mini 2 will go into production in the next in the fourth quarter of this year. The iPad Mini 2 will be sporting a high resolution display screen from Samsung Electronics. It is ironic to see Apple relying on its major rival for such an important component of iPad Mini.
The original iPad Mini was heavily criticized for not coming out with the Retina display. Instead of Retina display, the iPad Mini had a low resolution screen. So, we can expect that Apple definitely wants to offer higher resolution display on the next generation iPad Mini. This may be the reason why Apple has approached Samsung for providing them with new ‘Retina’ display.
Like the predecessor model, the next gen iPad Mini 2 is also a 7.9inch model. The tablet had released in the month of November in 2012. Many are speculating that the iPad Mini 2 will be out by the time holiday season arrives. Howeever, there are other speculations as well that say Apple that currently Apple is not in situation to roll out iPad Mini 2 because of the supply related issues it faced with its previous supplier.
Apple will be offering the iPad Mini 2 with multiple colors of back panels. Apple will not only use display screen from Samsung but also from other companies like Sharp and LG Display. It was first rumored that Apple will only work with Sharp and LG Display to receive display screens but later on it decided to add Samsung to the list. Apple is doing so to make sure they do not fall short of display screens. At present, Apple is making use of LG Display and AU Optronics Corp display screens for the iPad Mini.
Recently Google released the Nexus 7 tablet with higher display resolution. Apple will definitely want to stay in competition and to make sure it does, it should offer retina display in the next gen iPad Mini.
Samsung has been a major rival for Apple and to see the Cupertino company rely on Samsung for display on its next gen iPad Mini sounds very interesting. Previously, Samsung had worked with Apple to develop small sized chips, slimmer iPods and CPUs for powering up the iPhone. However, the relation between the two companies turned sour when Samsung suddenly move ahead to become the best smartphone maker of the world.
Samsung’s rise to stardom did not go down well with Apple and soon it filed a lawsuit in 2011.The Korean giant was accused of copying their designs. Both companies then started to attack each other at court trials by suggesting the court to ban each other’s devices from reaching the markets.
The reason why Apple has now again gone back to Samsung for iPad Mini 2 display screens is that the Korean tech giant is one of the few suppliers out there that can manufacture specific components in less time and also it offers the quality that Apple requires. Hence, Apple has considered switching from AU Optronics which made displays for the older Mini, to Samsung.
AU Optronics manager expressed that their company is not in a situation to handle orders from Apple because their output rate is not enough to be profitable. He also expressed that their company is unable to earn profit by making displays for the existing iPad Mini.
