Fresh-cut vegetables might be responsible for Listeria

STATES CHRONICLE – Country Fresh from Texas is recalling 30 000 various fresh-cut vegetable products because they might be infected with Listeria. This is an organism that causes dangerous infections in young children, older people or any person who has a chronic disease. No patient was confirmed to have Listeria. The products have to be recalled because they could be a huge threat for us.

The product, which is in a  clear plastic container or in trays with plastic film, was shipped to retailers in many states. (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia). The company who sent the products said they are treating that incident seriously. They want to make sure that their customers have only the safest vegetables on the market. The infection was discovered in a retail store in Georgia. They took a sample and discovered it tested positive for the bacteria. The authorities want to find out how this infection was possible and what caused it.

If you consumed these products, you should go to a place where you bought them to give them back. You will have a refund. The company can be also contacted for more information about this infection. Listeria is a virus that contaminates food and is one of the most important public health problems in the United States.  A person who was infected with this virus has a fever, muscles aches, headaches, loss of balance and convulsions. Pregnant women should pay more attention because it can lead to stillbirth or infection of the baby.

What can we do if we want to prevent this disease? First of all, wash all the fruits and vegetables you are eating. Moreover, dry those products with a paper towel and do not forget to separate uncooked meals from vegetables and cooked foods.  Another important advice is to keep your kitchen cleaner because of this way there are fewer chances for infections. Your food should be kept at the right temperature and if you feel that it has a weird smell or taste, do not eat it.

Try  not to drink raw milk or eat foods that have raw milk in them because they are more dangerous. Listeria is a major threat to our body and it can be found in fruits or vegetables.  Wash your hands before eating, make sure the products are fresh and go to a doctor if you have the symptoms described before.
