A Former Volusia County cop was sentenced to four years of probation for pickpocketing a suspect.
In the series ‘who watches the watchers’, we bring the compelling, brooding and altogether mindboggling story of a Volusia County cop who was caught stealing money from a man by his own body camera. According to the authorities, the former law enforcement official made no attempt at contesting the accusations and was, therefore sentence to probation.
Volusia County Cop Allegedly Connected to another Petty Theft Case
According to the Florida authorities, John Brahman, a 35-year-old formed Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy was recently arrested, charged with petty theft, and sentenced to four years of probation.
The ex-law enforcement officer has been accused of stealing money from a suspect he was ordered to arrest. Back in August, while on patrol, the Volusia County cop was ordered to take Thomas French into custody.
After a short stake-out, Brahman learned French’s whereabouts and moved in to arrest him. Being part of standard law enforcement procedure, Brahman switched on his body vest camera.
The minute-long clip, which later became the incriminating piece of evidence, show the Volusia County Cop approaching the suspect vehicle. French is ordered to raise his arms, while Brahmans put on the handcuffs.
However, instead of returning to the police car with the suspect, the sheriff’s deputy’s body camera shows Brahman reaching into the suspect’s back pocket, lifting his wallet, and taking out two $100 bill before returning it.
Before French’s court appearance, his lawyers analyzed the footage from the arresting officer’s body camera, only to witness Brahman pickpocketing his charge like a common thief.
The lawyers told the jury about the incident which, later led to the arrest of the 35-year-old police officer. For his deed, the former Volusia County Cop was charged with grand theft, petty theft, and official misconduct and sentenced to four years of probation.
