Man with previous record for kidnaping his wife has been accused again as woman claims to have been kept locked inside a box for four months.
A woman from Sedalia, Missouri claims that she had been kept hostage inside a wooden box for the past four months.
Thursday night a woman whose name has been kept hidden for safety reasons, escaped from her home and rushed to the house of her neighbours. There she told them that she has to dial 911 and call the police.
The 38 year old woman, sounded hysterical when she talked to the police but she managed to cool down when the officers arrived at the house. She told them that she was kept hostage by a man, stated John Begonia, police chief of Sedalia.
The woman explained officials that occasionally she was being locked inside a wooden box by her boyfriend, inside their home. There were times when they would leave the house in public and would encounter different people, like their families. It appears that the woman was telling the truth as her description matched what they encountered inside their residence.
When officers arrived at the location(after obtaining a search warrant) they indeed found a wooden box which purpose seemed to be exactly the one claimed by the woman. The man was not to be found, explained detective Josh Howell.
Police is looking for the suspect who has been identified as James Barton Horn of 47 years old. Horn’s vehicle was found in the south of the town later that night but no signs of him. Chief Begonia has stated that the department from Sedalia was collaborating with federal officials for the investigation. Horn might be facing charges of sexual assault and felonious restraint.
Federal court records from Mississippi have shown in 1997 the suspect pleaded guilty for kidnapping and abducting his wife which he had divorced. He received a sentence of almost 13 years in prison to which was added a five years administered release. In 2012 his probation jurisdiction was relocated to Missouri.
According to the police, the relationship of the two appears to have started from a mutual consent but it arrived to become a relationship where the woman was held against her own will. No police records have been shown to have declared the woman missing.
Neighbours reported that there were times when they would see the couple outside the house and the woman was indeed talking to other people but it was obvious the situation was controlled by the man.
Presently the woman is safe and is in a good state given what she went trough for the past months, explained detective Howell.
