This year it is going to be the first time that gaming consoles from Microsoft and Sony will be competing against each other. Microsoft’s Xbox One is going to be available at the stands first and then within few weeks the PlayStation 4 will be available on sale.

The competition is going to be fierce between both the gaming consoles. It won’t be easy to choose one. By comparing both the gaming consoles, you can make the right choice.

Games
When Xbox One was unveiled; Microsoft spoke about 15 games that will be exclusively available to Xbox One. Some of the games include Forza 5 racing game, Quantum Change, Ryse, NBA Live 2014, Fifa 2014, and many more.

At the moment, Sony has not committed about any particular games for their new gaming console. However at the showcasing event of PS4, the makers had run games like Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son, and Drive Club. However, there will be many games that will be available for both consoles.

Hardware
Both gaming consoles are powered with AMD CPUs with x86 architecture and 8GB RAM. The hard disk drive present on Xbox One is of 500GB. However, Sony has remained mum on the storage size of PS4. They have only mentioned it to be ‘very large.’ As far as design is concerned, Xbox One is large sized box that supports Blu-ray discs. When it comes to PS4, Sony has not unveiled anything about the device. They have only released a 39 seconds video which only shows you blurred images of PS4.

The Xbox One controller appears like a polished version of Xbox 360 controller.  The D-pad appears better and buttons and sticks have been revamped. The battery compartment has also been given facelift which gives you good grip. Your old Xbox 360 device will not work on the new Xbox One. Sony is making use of the DualShock edition controller for PS4. DualShock 4 comes with new features like touchpad, analog sticks, easy to use triggers, light bar and share button. The overall design of Sony PS4 controller is almost same as first gen PS.

Motion Control
Both the new gaming consoles come with motion control feature. Microsoft is offering Kinect while Sony is offering PlayStation Eye. Both are optional accessories that can be availed with the respective gaming consoles.

Kinect comes with a camera that supports 1080p and is able to detect and recognize people through face recognition technology. It can detect bodily movements like finger movement, heart rate, movements of legs and so on. You can also command the device using commands through Kinect. You can power up the device by saying ‘Xbox on.’

The PlayStation 4 comes with PlayStation Eye which makes use of two cameras. Those cameras will be able to detect motion in the room. It also comes with microphone for hearing voice commands. Sony does not plan to sell the PlayStation Eye separately as an accessory but bundled with the device.

Internet Connectivity
The Xbox Live allows more people to join multiplayer games simultaneously. Players can help each other complete the game or let the other play continue the game. PS4 will offer Facebook integration and it will allow players to connect with their friends. By using PlayStation Network,  gamers will be able to stream games on PS4 online. Friends can help each other complete the game or pass difficult moments of the game through cloud gaming technology.

Backward Compatibility
The games that you enjoyed on your Xbox 360 or PS3 cannot be played on Xbox One and PS4. The main reason behind it is that both the gaming consoles are making use of new system architectures.

Other Features
The Xbox One offers easy connectivity to TV. All you need to do connect the cable wire to Xbox One and then connect Xbox One to TV. This will allow you to watch TV as and when you want. Also you can make use of Skype to perform video chat using the camera present on Kinect. Sony will make it possible for third party indie studios to distribute own games on PS4. This feature won’t be available on Xbox One.
