Tragic attack happening in a school from Barcelona after 13 year old enters school with machete and crossbow and kills teacher.
A boy of only 13 years old from Barcelona, Spain went to school armed with a machete and a crossbow, killed a teacher and wounded four other people on Monday, among which two teachers and two students, police reports have stated.
The boy’s name hasn’t been revealed because of his age but he was arrested by the police after the shocking attack. Police officials have stated that due to him being underaged he will not be charged for criminal actions.
The attack happened Monday a little after 9.30 am, in a school in a neighbourhood from Barcelona. Attacks in schools in Spain are very rare and police officials don’t recall a situation like this occurring in a school from the country.
One of the students stated that at one point during the class they started hearing screams in the school and they locked the doors of the classroom to make sure they were safe.
A representative of the local police, said that the 13 year old boy, had on him a crossbow and a machete, but she didn’t know exactly which of the weapons provoked the death of the teacher. She added that the police was going on with the investigation in secret and she didn’t have any other details. The name of the police spokesperson hasn’t been revealed due to police regulations.
The underaged boy, was taken to a hospital where he will go trough a set of psychiatric examination, explained a representative of the prosector’s office from Barcelona, Jose Miguel Company. He stated that when he was detained the boy seemed to be extremely disturbed and was talking weird and incoherent words. The medical examination will establish if the boy suffers from psychiatric issues of if there is a possibility he was playing a role.
There are no in depth details about how the attack had happened but according to a student people only got out of their classrooms after they heard the school fire school alarm go off. When they left the classroom, they saw the teacher in a puddle of blood, laying on the floor.
One other student, stated that she knew the boy and he didn’t seem to have problems, but she admitted he was a very lonely person and most of the times the rest of the students would be picking on him. The two students along with one of the teachers who had been injured have been taken to the hospital and the other teacher wounded had minor injuries which didn’t require hospitalisation and was tended at the spot.
Students with ages between 12 and 16 gathered outside the school together with parents to morn the tragic event. It appears that teacher killed by the boy had been working as a substitute teacher at the school for only a week.
The laws in Spain, state that children younger than 14 years old, cannot be accused of crimes and they cannot be taken to jail or in detention centres for minors. The only legal thing to do, is to take them to psychological institutions, explained an anonymous representative of the Justice Ministry of Spain.
In 2012, an attempt of a similar situation happened involving a man of 21 years old who seems that he wanted to reproduce the attack that happened in Colorado at the Columbine High School where 12 students and one teacher were murdered.
