The new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite has been announced and it appears very similar to the predecessor model. However, it is faster and better than the previous model. The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is available for pre-order from today. And the shipment of Kindle Paperwhite will start from September 30th.
The Kindle Paperwhite is going to come with e-ink Pearl 2 display which will make it easier for readers to read content on the device thanks to the better contrast it offers. The predecessor model was powered with 800MHz CPU whereas the new model will feature 1GHz CPU. The display has got in-built light and a very sensitive touchscreen. The device only weighs 7.3 ounces.
The new device features a noticeable Amazon logo instead of the Kindle logo that was present on the predecessor model. The light on the display spreads evenly which makes the display brighter. When you compare the display of this device with that of the predecessor model, you will know that the whites appear whiter and blacks appear blacker on the new device.
The display of the new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite requires users to keep refreshing the screen. The term used for refreshing the display is called flashing. It is a fact that e-ink screens should be refreshed often to get rid of ghosting effect. On the previous model, flashing was done after six page turns whereas on the newer device, flashing can be done after twelve pages.
The battery life of the new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is same as that of the original device with single charge running up to two months with Wi-Fi kept off. Even the device comes with an improved processor, the battery life is more or less similar to that of the original Paperwhite. The fast processor on the device is coupled with a 2GB RAM.
For storing e-books, users are provided with 1.25GB space. This allow users to store up to 1100 ebooks on the device. Rumor has it that the edition of the new Paperwhite for Japanese markets will feature 4GB storage space.
Amazon also brings some interesting features such as Goodreads integration. Goodreads is a famous social reading and reviewing website. Another interesting app is the Smart Lookup that will let you access Dictionary, X-ray and Wikipedia all under one intuitive app. A scan app called Kindle Page Flip that offers you picture-in-picture. Some of the apps will come preloaded on the device whereas the other apps will be made available for the device later this year.
The new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite device will come out with a price of $119 for Wi-Fi only version. The device will show up advertisements on the homescreen when the device the e-reader’s screen is put in sleep mode or whenever the device is turned on. By adding $20 extra, one can purchase Wi-Fi + 3G edition through which you can access Amazon Store. The device will start shipping on Nov 5.
