Amazon has unleashed two new tablets which are going to give tough competition to the recently announced Microsoft Surface 2 tablets and the forthcoming iPad Mini 2. The two new Kindle Fire HDX tablets that have been announced are faster and lighter than all the predecessor Amazon Kindle Fire models. Moreover, Amazon is also offering 24 by 7 technical support.

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX

The Kindle Fire HDX comes in two editions namely 7inch and 8.9inch. The reason why both the devices are named HDX is that both offer high definition picture quality. The 7inch Kindle Fire HDX offers a display resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels with a pixel density of 323ppi. The 8.9inch Kindle Fire HDX offers a display resolution of 2500 x 1600 pixels with a pixel density of 339ppi. Amazon is also boasting about a new feature on both the tablets which makes it possible to automatically adjust the color and brightness of each pixel. This made possible through Amazon’s unique algorithm.

What is so special about the new 8.9inch model is that with a weight of 13.2 ounces it is the lightest tablet in the 8.9inch category. So, if you compare this variant with previous generation Kindle Fire HD, you would know that the 8.9inch variant is 34 percent lighter. Like many of the new smartphones and tablets, even the Kindle Fire HDX modes are powered by quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU and both of them is capable of delivering 2.2GHz clocking speed. Yet again Amazon boasts about the new tablets saying that the current models are three times faster than last gen Kindle Fire HD.

As expected, the Kindle Fire HDX models are running on a customized version of Google Android. The updated operating system running on these devices is Fire OS 3.0 “Mojito.” Both the devices offer a new feature which allows users to view videos through their televisions. The X-ray app which allows users to view trivia contents related TV shows and movies, now covers even music.

The newest feature that comes with the two new Kindle Fire HDX tablets is “Mayday”. It is nothing 24 x 7 x 365 online technical support for the new tablets. Online support also includes live tech support through chat. Through the tech support, technical support executive will be able to explain features or fix issues through on-screen hand scribbles. Also, they will be to fix any issue by remotely connecting to the tablet

In US, the 7inch variant will be sold for 229USD which comes with 8GB storage whereas the 8.9inch is priced at 379USD which comes with 8GB storage as well. Amazon has not yet disclosed the pricing for UK or other countries.

With the release of new tablets, Amazon is also cutting down the price of the 7inch entry level Kindle Fire HD which also has 8GB storage space. It is now priced at 139USD. This new model comes with magnesium alloy chassis which is the same material present on HDX models. However, it offers a screen resolution and processing power which is same as that of the last gen Kindle Fire HD. The reduced price will definitely put the Kindle Fire HD in a competing position in the market.
