Apple, it is being rumored is going for a complete overhaul of its iPhone lineup. Next in the offing is the new iPhone 5S as well as cheaper versions of the same, both of which are expected to be a market reality towards fall of this year. Also, things can be considered to be a bit desperate this time round for Apple, what with the growing clout of Samsung in the mobile connected devices segment. The South Korean company’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S4 is already selling like hot cakes while it also offers a plethora of other models in the entire price spectrum.
Compare that to just the one single model of iPhone that Apple offers. However, Apple has drawn up an ambitious plan to tackle Samsung in the smartphone segment. While in the immediate future it will have the iPhone 5S to offer, the cheaper iPhone which some analysts claim can be as cheap as just $99 will ensure Apple has the volumes in the mobile phone segment that it has been looking for. There also are reports of the cheaper iPhone variant to be made available in a range of color options that will not only make for a colorful offering but will also differentiate from the company’s flagship device which traditionally dons either black or white shade.
However, Apple’s greater strategy in this segment will be the iPhone 6 which is reported to have a bigger 4.7 inch display. An even bigger iPhone variant too is being talked about, one that has a display of 5.7 inches. The later will enable Apple to have a presence in the burgeoning phablet segment as well which is characterized by smartphones with bigger display which though is smaller than being dubbed a full scale tablet device. Also, if the rumors are indeed true, it will be the first time Apple will be into manufacturing an iPhone with a display 4.7 inch and above. The iPhone 5 with a 4 inch display was the first to veer away from the usual 3.5 inch sized iPhones the company churned out though it still was smaller than similar offering from its competitors.
