NJ State Trooper

NJ State Trooper becomes local hero after saving the life of a two-week-old infant who was choking.

An NJ State Trooper who was off-duty was hailed a local hero after the man saved the life of a two-week-old infant who was choking to death. The man had just returned home from a late-night shift when one of his neighbors asked him to save the life of his child.

NJ State Trooper Was Fast Asleep When Duty Called

Robert Meyer, a New Jersey State Trooper, has proved that the police force does a whole lot more than arresting bad guys. As Meyer recalled, on Saturday afternoon, he returned from a tiresome late-night shift and decided to hit the sack.

Moments later, he heard someone knocking frantically on the front door. With his bedclothes still on, the NJ State Trooper went to the front door to see who was calling. Outside, he found a terrified man, begging him for help.

When Meyer asked the man what happened, he told the off-duty state trooper that her two-week-old granddaughter Elizabeth was chocking and that he didn’t know what to do. The distressed neighbor also told him that this happened soon after he finished feeding Elizabeth, who started vomiting and chocking.

While in his bedclothes and no shoes on, the NJ State Trooper rushed to his neighbor’s house in order to save the life of the two-week-old infant. According to Meyer, when he arrived at the house, Elizabeth was blue in the face, and that she had trouble breathing.

Conclusion

Meyer explained to the man and his family that the child’s airways became blocked and asked the family for a pump. The father gave Meyer the pump, and in just a matter of seconds, Elizabeth was breathing without any issues.

After clearing Elizabeth’s airways, the state trooper called 911 and rushed the infant to the hospital.

Canadian Couple Gets Hookworm Infection After Walking Barefoot on Beach

Hookworm

Couple gets hookworm infection after walking barefoot on Dominican Republic Beach.

A trip to the Dominican Republic took a wrong turn for an unfortunate Ontario couple. After spending a few romantic days walking barefoot on the beach, the couple returned home with a horde of hookworms who have taken refuge inside their feet.

Mammalian Species Vulnerable to Hookworm Infections

Cutaneous larva migrans is a medical condition triggered by larvae from the Ancylostomatidae (hookworm family). In mammalian species, these parasites can break the skin and infect the adjoining tissue causing painful, pruritic eruptions (itch). Secondary bacterial infection could be developed by the subject’s need to scratch the affected area.

A similar case was recently recorded in Canada after a couple returned from their Dominican Republic vacation. Katie Stevens and Eddie Zytner recall that throughout their stay at the IFA Villas Bavaro Resort, they had itchy feet, but decided to disregard this symptom, as the locals told them that their itchiness is caused by something called a sand flea.

On the 19th of January, the very next day they’ve returned from their weekend-long exotic trip, Stevens’ boyfriend’s feet begun to swell. The woman also added that the itchiness didn’t subside, and they had to scratch their way back to the States.

Come the weekend, Zytner discovered that small blisters appeared on his feet. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was consulted by two doctors who sent him at home with his feet bandaged, not knowing his condition. Stevens’ symptoms soon followed, and both of them were rushed to the hospital.

The third physician managed to make the right call and told the couple that they’d contracted a hookworm infection. Unfortunately, the diagnosis was only part of the problem, as the cure had to be delivered from Detroit since it is not licensed in Canada

Ivermectin, the wonder-cure for hookworm infection, was bought from the States by Zytner’s mother. After a couple of doses, the Canadian couple began showing signs of improvement, but they’re still not out of the woods.

Kingsburg Home Burglars Elude Police for Six Miles

According to the official police report, on Wednesday, at approximately 11 a.m. three individuals, later identified as Lorenzo Herrera,19, Morgan Bray, 19, and Baldemar Ambriz,20, were caught inside a Kingsburg home trying to steal valuables.

The thieves were sighted by the home’s owner, an unidentified woman, who ran outside to a store and called the authorities, as well as her husband. Fearing that they might have been compromised, the thieves took everything they could and jumped in their getaway car, a red Dodge Ram pickup.

The woman’s husband arrived on time and begun pursuing the car. Meanwhile, the woman managed to call the authorities and to inform them about the event.

While speeding on the highway, the suspects’ vehicle was seen by a California Highway Patrol officer, who signaled the driver to pull over. However, instead of stopping, the driver raced passed the officer.

The car chase would last for six more miles before the car ends up in a ditch. Shortly after the crash, the authorities managed to detain Baldemar Ambriz, while the other two managed to flee the scene.

Minutes later, Herrera was found by a California Highway Patrol office. After a stand-off with Herrera pointing a .22 caliber rifle at the law enforcement officer, the man was subdued and taken into custody. The last Kingsburg home burglar was found later that day.

Both Bray and Ambriz were charged with obstructing a police officer, first-degree burglary, and conspiracy, but were later released after paying the $70,000 bond. On the other hand, Herrera was charged with conspiracy, obstructing a police officer, threatening an officer with a semi-automatic weapon, and first-degree burglary.

YouTube Stiffens Its Monetization Policy to Discourage Spammers and Bad Actors

January 18, 2018 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

YouTube

YouTube announced a policy change in channel monetization rules.

Bad news out there for all YouTubers who wanted to monetize their YouTube channel. According to a recent blog post, YouTube announces that the channel monetization rules of engagement have changes in order to discourage spammers and ‘bad actor.’

What You Need to Know About YouTube Monetization Policy

The finest hour of any YouTube content creator is that moment when his bankroll starts multiplying. It’s not just a dream come true, but with the YouTube Partner Program, anyone can start making serious money, provided that the owner has enough subscribers and hours of watch time.

Well, far be it from us to discourage, young content creators, but according to YouTube, there will be a massive change of policies, starting with February. The area most impacted by YouTube’s policy change is monetization or rather, the eligibility conditions.

According to one of YouTube’s blog posts, in order to sow what you reap, your YouTube Channel must have at least 1,000 subscribers and a total number of 4,000 watch hours for it to be eligible for the Partner Program.

Compared to YouTube’s past policy, which usually required a channel to hit the 10,000 public views channel, the new one can put a lot of people out of business and, of course, discourage others. But, all in all, it’s not an exactly bad thing, considering that these kinds of changes can seriously discourage spammers and what YouTube called ‘bad actors’ for posting trash content just to increase channel engagement.

So, when will YouTube start enforcing its new policy? According to the post, the new policy will be applied starting with the 20th of February. YouTube channel owners who don’t meet the eligibility requirements, but made serious moolah before the policy change, will have a grace period of 30 days to get in shape, otherwise is bye-bye channel.

Dallas Woman Who Damaged Warhol Paintings Risks Life in Prison Sentence

Justice

Dallas woman might risk life behind bars after destroying valuable Warhol paintings.

Lindy Lou Layman, the Dallas woman who damaged two Warhol paintings during a lover’s quarrel, could receive a life sentence in prison if found guilty. During the events that took place at Tony Buzbee’s, several other works of art have been damaged.

Warhol Paintings Estimated at $1 Million

According to Tony Buzbee’s statements, Lindy Lou Layman went berserk after a heating argument and started thrashing everything in her path. Buzbee who is an influential Dallas attorney declared that apart from the two Warhol Painting, each worth $500,000, the woman also broke two statues, each worth approximately $20,000.

The events that led to the woman’s arrest started to unfold in the 23rd of December. Lou Layman came to Buzbee’s residence in order to speak her mind. As Buzbee declared, the woman was in advanced state of intoxication when he arrived at his house.  Most notably, it appears that Lou Layman and Buzbee had a torrid love affair which lasted for some time and the woman came that day in order to reckon with him.

After a heated argument which took place in Buzbee’s living room, the woman became enraged and started thrashing everything she could lay her hands on. Buzbee’s statements point out that the Dallas woman ripped a couple of painting with her bare hands, poured wine on others, and shattered two valuable statues.

Apparently, the attorney tried to order an Uber when Lou Layman began to demolish his living room. Furthermore, the authorities declared that the man was found hiding inside his home until the woman was restrained by the authorities.

Although a guilty sentence might translate as life in prison, Lou Layman’s attorney said that his client is a good person and that Buzbee might exacerbate the events that transpired at his home.

Bugs Love Our Homes, and It’s Hard to Take Them Out (Study)

November 13, 2017 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

Dead cockroach on a kitchen tile

You can’t really stop bugs from entering your house

STATES CHRONICLE – Nobody wants to have uninvited guests in their house, especially tiny ones with multiple feet. Many people think keeping the house clean will keep bugs out of the house, but a new study revealed it doesn’t actually affect them. Insects have certain spots in our home that they prefer, and knowing where they usually hide might help you make your household unsuitable for them.

Bugs thrive in our homes

The number of bugs hidden inside your home usually depends on the area where it was built. However, there are still certain rooms and spaces where they enjoy nesting, so knowing them might help you get rid of the unwanted tenants.

The main favorite space of bugs are basements, which should come as no surprise. Since they are dark, damp, and closer to the ground, they make for the perfect environment where bugs can thrive. However, this is not the only place you should look out for. Those rooms with more doors and windows are an easy target, as they can get in with no effort.

Also, you should be careful with the rooms with carpets. They can store plenty of dust, which bugs seem to love. Even if you clean up regularly, dust still keeps accumulating. However, the most interesting finding was another one. Insects are immune to any activity undertaken by humans and pets living in the house. That is, they are not disturbed by anything.

Whatever we might do, insects will keep living in our houses

Houses are small ecosystems which can resist serious tidying, pesticide treatments, or curious pets. The study looked at 50 separate houses and the bugs living inside them. Even after accounting for their position, building structure, and cleanliness, the number of insects remained undisturbed.

There’s not much we can do to prevent the unwanted guests to enter our homes. This is why researchers keep looking at the effects they might have on people’s health. The research has been published in the journal Scientific Reports.

overwatch event

STATES CHRONICLE – Blizzard Entertainment gained large experience in the esport industry starting with the StarCraft series. However, the company didn’t rush to turn its successful shooter Overwatch into a competitive field at first. Instead, it allowed users to grow into a tight-knit community and help developers improve the game. Nonetheless, the time has come for Overwatch to step forward as an esports league. It is going to have the financial support of HP and Intel for that.

By 2020, eSports Will Be a $1.5 Billion Worth Market

Thanks to its international success, Overwatch had it easy to lure in investors and grow into a competitive shooter game. HP announced that its Omen by HP brand is going to be a major sponsor for the Overwatch league. This collaboration is slated to last for more than one year.

Both HP and Intel announced their support for Overwatch transition to an esports league during BlizzCon 2017 in Anaheim, California. According to various reports, this gaming industry is expected to reach a value of $1.5 billion in three years.

As a result, Overwatch League tournaments are going to use Omen by HP computers and displays exclusively. The hardware in its turn will be powered by Intel’s new Core i7 and i9 processors.

Blizzard has already begun to manage team owners and inspire local teams to join their competition. There will be a preseason period on December 6 while the official action will begin next year on January 10.

Overwatch Will Become an Esports League with the Support of Intel and HP

At this point, 12 new teams are in the race. None of them has joined any other esports league so far. They represent various nations from Asia, North America, and Europe. Some of the teams like Seoul Dynasty or Cloud9 have already revealed inside specs with the intention to spark interest in the event.

Both Intel and HP intend to support the Overwatch community throughout any upcoming competitive events outside the league as well. All three parties delivered official statements that mark the beginning of a fruitful collaboration. Overwatch League will equip teams with top-end technology while the companies will take advantage of the momentum the shooter grew within the gaming industry.

Doctors Concluded that the Passing of Her Dog Broke This Woman’s Heart

October 23, 2017 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

broken stone

Joanie Simpson is a rare case in the world that proved that people could get broken hearted. In medical terms, the experience is called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. The woman from Texas didn’t cope well with the news of the death of her dog, a Yorkshire terrier.

Joanie Simpson Felt Back and Chest Pain Which Indicated to Broken-Heart Syndrome

Simpson is a 62-year-old woman who simply loves pets. As of recently, she has been through some trying life experiences that culminated with her dog’s death. Meha was a loving Yorkshire terrier that suffered from a fatal congestive heart failure. Unfortunately, the small pet didn’t have a peaceful death.

Simpson claimed that all their offspring are living away from their hometown. This made their parents find Meha more than just a pet, and they treated her like a daughter. The passing of her dog meant a great deal of pain to Joanie Simpson. At some point, her sorrow started to develop into a back and chest pain.

The medical staff at Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Texas Medical Center discovered that she survived a Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or broken-heart syndrome. According to Harvard Medical School of Harvard University, only a major emotional or physical event could trigger such a condition. These agents can be the loss of a loved being or a car accident.

When a person is clinically heart-broken, the heart’s main pumping chamber is weakening. On the other hand, science didn’t prove any linking between an emotional stress and a weakened heart.

However, researchers believe that people’s strong reactions to a stressful event can make their body pump more stress hormones than usual, such as adrenaline. These substances can freeze the heart and impair the left ventricle from performing its usual contractions.

While scientists found similarities between the broken-heart syndrome and heart attack, the former is not fatal. In fact, it is a reversible condition.

The Death of Her Dog Won’t Dissuade Simpson from Adopting Another Furry Member of Her Family

“It is heartbreaking. It is traumatic. It is all of the above. But you know what? They give so much love and companionship that I’ll do it again.”

Nonetheless, Joanie Simpson is currently out of danger. She claimed that her dog meant a great deal to her, especially after her kids fled from home. On top of that, Simpson plans to adopt another pet since they always know how to give love to their new family.

Jamie Oliver Increases Price of Sugary Drinks in His Restaurants to Prove a Point

October 18, 2017 By Georgia Dawson Leave a Comment

soda can

STATES CHRONICLE – Jamie Oliver is one of the most charismatic and skillful cooks of all times that have appeared on TV. However, he hasn’t focused on cooking shows only. He also recorded his efforts to make America healthier by teaching citizens how to cook simple recipes. His latest endeavor attempts to persuade governments to hold nothing back when it comes to tax increases for sugary drinks.

Jamie Oliver Recorded Long-Term Effects across Restaurants in UK by Changing Menus and Increasing Price Tags

As of lately, Jamie Oliver issued a 10% price increase across his 37 Italian restaurants across the UK. He made sure his clients were aware that the extra earnings are going to head towards charity. Due to this implementation, sales on unhealthy soft drink declined by 11% over a timeframe of 12 weeks.

On top of that, restaurants promoted redesign menus. Therefore, clients were able to easily find healthier alternatives to their drinks of choice with lower measures of sugar. Thanks to these little tweaks, the results gained long-term effects. Even after a six-month period, the chain of restaurants was still recording a 9.3% decline in sales for sugary drinks per customer.

However, Jamie didn’t act alone. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine led the study together with the University of Cambridge. The final results were published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health.

The Study Adds More Reasons for Governments to Act Harsher Against Sugary Drinks

While most calorie excesses originate from food, drinks are not to be taken lightly. Consumption of beverages high in sugars is often linked to type 2 diabetes, overweight, tooth decay, and cardiovascular diseases. Letting go of such nutritional habits can restore normal body weight in children and teenagers.

Various reports show that UK children consume half of their caloric excess from beverages high in sugars. Adults on average consume 50 calories more per day coming from sugar-sweetened drinks.

The authors of the study admit to the limitations of their resources. The research was conducted only within one chain of restaurants. On top of that, they implemented a change that was already happening elsewhere as well. Nonetheless, researchers and Jamie are still encouraging policymakers to introduce harsher taxes for unhealthy beverages.
