Video Games Murder in Monroe County

The 13-year-old shot in the head by irked brother after video games dispute passes away at Memphis hospital.

A Monroe County girl was recently declared dead at a Memphis hospital after her brother shot her with his parent’s pistol. Reportedly, the nine-year-old boy became upset after his sister did not allow him to play video games on the console.

Monroe County Girl ‘Executed’ in Video Games Style

The Monroe County, law enforcement officials, are currently investigating the shooting death of a 13-year-old girl. According to the authorities, the events started to unfold on Saturday evening, when the girl and her nine-year-old brother had a rather heated dispute about whose turn it is to play on the console.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told the reporters that the 13-year-old girl was playing video games on the console all day, with her brother throwing a fit next to her.

Reportedly, at one point, the nine-year-old went to his sister and ordered her to give him the console controller. The girl refused, and the two of them argued for some time.

Cantrell declared that the irked boy left the room and later returned with a .25-mm handgun. He crept up on his sister, placed the barrel of the gun at the back of her head and fired one shot.

The parents called the authorities who rushed the 13-year-old girl in critical condition at the Le Bonheur’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

Conclusion

Emergency surgery and life-saving maneuvers failed, and the girl was declared dead on Sunday, at 6:45 p.m. According to the ER doctors, the 13-year-old had minimal chances of survival, as the bullet went straight through her brain.

When asked about charges, Cantrell said that the case is being under scrutiny and will not be expedited. The Monroe County Sherriff added that the video games murder by minor is the first case of this kind in Monroe County.

Amazon Alexa Laughing out of the Blue Puzzles Engineers

March 8, 2018 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Alexa laughing

Amazon employees don’t know why Alexa is laughing.

Picture this – still of the night, no soul in sight and, suddenly; your Amazon Echo starts laughing as if it heard the best joke ever. Recently, the company’s service has been assaulted by reports of a peculiar bug that seems to affect Amazon Alex.

Amazon Alexa Bug Related to Incorrectly Processed Voice Commands

According to an Amazon spokesperson, several customers have been complaining about their Amazon Alexa laughing like crazy even though nobody uttered a word in front of over.

A customer told the call center operator that during a meeting, the Amazon Echo simply started laughing for a couple of seconds and then simply switched itself off. Another one reported being alone with his mother when they’ve heard the sinister laugh coming from their Amazon Alexa who was in standby mode.

As far as the software engineers are concerned, the peculiar bug reported by the clients has something to do with how Amazon Alexa picks up voice commands. Various ambient sounds might be picked up by the device and simply interpreted as voice commands.

To that end, the company announced that the software engineers had changed Alexa’s voice command for laughter. Now, if you want to make Alexa laugh, you will need to say the sentence ‘Alexa, can you laugh?’ instead of ‘Alexa, laugh.’

Although this solution seems to have partially sounded the annoying and creepy bug, the software engineers still don’t know for sure what exactly caused in the first place. One theory out there suggests that the devices emitting the sinister laughter might have been hacked by someone who’s programming it to emit the sound at regular intervals.

However, the theory is as far-fetched as it is unsubstantiated, the software developers believing that it has more to do with ambient sounds than with hackers.

Colorado Homeless Man arrested

A Colorado homeless man was accused of stabbing to death the woman who offered him a home.

Acting on a tip they’ve received on Friday, the Colorado authorities arrested a 40-year-old homeless man who allegedly stabbed to death the woman who offered him a place to stay at her house. According to the authorities, the suspect took advantage of his host’s generosity and invited one of his friends to stay with them.

Colorado Homeless Man Stabbed Victims Six Day Before Valentine’s Day

On Friday, the Colorado authorities arrested 40-year-old Terry Dunford, a homeless man, on suspicion of stabbing to death 49-year-old Jeanna Leslie, a recently divorced woman who offered to take Dunford in.

According to the authorities, Leslie was touched by Dunford’s heartfelt story and told the man that she’s willing to share the apartment with him. Things remained unchanged until Dunford invited one of his friends to join him and Leslie.

The authorities declared that the woman did not protest and even offered to buy groceries and alcohol for Dunford and his companion, an aspect confirmed by surveillance footage which shows Leslie and Dunford exiting an alcohol shop.

Unfortunately, with no good going unpunished, as the saying goes, Leslie’s generosity would be her undoing. One afternoon, the woman’s ex-husband called her after she failed to pick up their two children from a basketball game.

The man later alerted the authorities who, in turn, went to Leslie’s apartment. Upon entering the house, the investigators found Leslie’s bodies in the living room and some blood-smeared clothes in the trash. Their searches led them to the Colorado homeless man and his companion.

Dunford was later arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder. At the moment, the homicide detectives could not uncover the reason why the Colorado homeless man chose to take the life of his gracious host. The investigation is ongoing, which means that more details are sure to emerge.

Sledgehammer Marauder Totals Every Cop Car in the Lot

On Sunday morning, just before 5 a.m., 59-year-old Gregory Simpson of Dallas, drove his car inside the City Marshall’s detention center. The individual calmly exited his vehicle, opened the trunk, took out a heavy-duty sledgehammer and begun smashing every police car he could lay eyes on.

February 1, 2018 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Pot brownies.

Seven high school students were rushed to the hospital after eating pot brownies.

At least seven Edison High School students have been transported to a Fresno hospital after eating brownies containing an unknown substance. The authorities believe that all of them must have eaten pot brownies, probably brought by one of them from home against school’s policies.

Pot Brownies Sends High Schoolers Straight to ER

According to the Fresno authorities, on Friday morning, at approximately 11:40, the Edison High School’s nurse’s office called 911. The caller told the emergency dispatcher that some of the students became ill after eating a couple of brownies.

Several minutes later, a team of paramedics arrived and took seven high schoolers to the emergency room for medical treatment. According to the hospital’s staff, the youngsters are in good shape and are responding to treatment.

As for the source of their symptoms, the doctors have speculated that the students might have eaten pot brownies. Jameli Haddad, one of the many parents who arrived at school after hearing about the incident, told the press that these things tend to happen and that he was straightforward with his child concerning drugs such as marijuana.

However, since the Prop 64 has passed, it would appear that incidents of this type have multiplied, as confirmed by Lindsay Sanders, the principal of the Edison High School. To prevent similar events in the future, the principal told students to refrain from bringing food or sweets from home in order to share them with their classmates.

In her statement, the school’s principal also declared that all parties involved in the recent pot brownies incident would face academic as well as legal consequences. Following the departure of the ambulances, classes were resumed, but the investigations have just begun.

As for the students who were taken to the hospital, they are feeling well and will soon be discharged.

Florida Man Manhunt

Florida man accused of beating baby with belt and throwing her in the over.

Florida authorities recently announced that the state-wide manhunt for Terry May, the 45-year-old individual suspected of beating a 3-year-old girl with a belt before placing her in a hot oven has ended. The man turned himself over to the authorities on Thursday.

Florida Man Denies Child Abuse Allegations

According to the Florida authorities, the events which culminated with Terry May turning himself over to the Volusia County Sheriff’s office started to unfold several days ago when May’s former girlfriend called the authorities and told them that she found signs of abuse on her 3-year-old’s girl.

The woman told the authorities that the man allegedly brutalized her girl before running away. Mike Chitwood, the Volusia County Sheriff, said that the child was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe body traumatisms and scorch marks.

After hearing the woman’s testimony, the authorities launched a state-wide manhunt in order to apprehend the Florida man. The hunt ended on Thursday when Terry May walked into the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the official police report, while being alone with the three-year-old, May decided to punish her. The man reportedly took out her belt and stroke the child multiple times. To top it all off, May allegedly opened the oven’s door and threw the child inside, with the oven still running.

At this point, the man was charged with child abuse, and he’s being held on a $50,000. Although all odds are against him, May’s family come to defend the man saying that he could never do anything to hurt the baby and that someone else must have abused her.

Still, the medical report suggests that this isn’t the first time May used the belt to discipline the tyke. The case is being under scrutiny.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery to Land on Android and iOS This Spring

January 19, 2018 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Harry Potter

Jam City announced that a new Harry Potter game is in the making.

While waiting for the new ‘Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them’ movie to come out, you might be pleased to know that game studio Jam City has partnered up with Warner Bros. to create a new Harry Potter-inspired game for Android and iOS.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Uses RPG Mechanics

According to the developers, the upcoming Harry Potter game, dubbed Hogwarts Mystery, will have RPG-style mechanics, allowing the players to develop their characters as they see fit. The game’s timeline is set between Harry Potter’s birth and his admission to Hogwarts.

Although the game studio left out all of the famous characters we’ve grown accustomed to like Ron, Hermione, Hagrid or Snape, you’ll be able to rub elbows with Bill Weasley and Nymphadora Tonks.

As for the game itself, according to the devs, as a wizard/witch freshman, you will be able to attend various classes, learn new spells and skills, hone those you’ve already know, and of course, make new friends.

Unfortunately, Jam City is keeping a tight lid on this project, meaning that’s about everything we know about the game’s mechanics. Also, the game, which is scheduled to come out this spring, will be free to download and play on Google Play/iOS store with in-game purchases.

However, if you don’t want to wait that long for the game to come, you can always go to the upcoming A Celebration of Harry Potter event, where you’ll be able to buy Harry Potter inspired merchandise and, of course, talk to the team behind the game.

According to Christ DeWolfe, the founder, and CEO of Jam City, Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery will be filled with Easter Eggs, some about Harry and some regarding the brooding story weaved by J.K. Rowling.

Redding Man Confesses to McAlister Murder on Live TV

January 14, 2018 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

McAlister Murder

Man confesses on live TV on the McAlister murder.

Brian Keith Hawkins, a 44-year-old man from Redding, confessed during a KRCR News to being responsible for the murder of 19-year-old Frank McAlister. Hawkins also admitted that he was in cahoots with two other people, but that he wasn’t the one who devised the plan.

The 25-Year-Old McAlister Murder Mystery Unraveled

On the 7th of May 1993, the authorities were notified that a 19-year-old Frank McAlister went missing. Several days later, the authorities discovered the man’s body in an abandoned Costco parking lot. The coroner’s report rubber-stamped the man’s death as a homicide, but the case was shortly put on ice since the authorities could not identify any suspects.

And now, after more than 20 years since the case was closed, during a KRCR News live TV interview, Brian Keith Hawkins, a 44-year-old Redding citizen, decided to come clean and confessed to the McAlister murder.

During his confession, Hawkins declared that he was not acting alone, but with two other people whom the authorities identified as being 45-year-old Curtis Dean Culver and his sister, 41-year-old Shana Nichole Culver.

Soon after Hawkins’ confession, the news station called the local authorities who arrested the man. During his police interview, Hawkins said that it was Curtis’ plan to tackle McAlister and that he didn’t want to murder him.

Luring him into the nearby woods under false pretense, Hawkins and the others repeatedly stabbed McAlister and later dumped his body in the abandoned Costco parking lot. The man said that they’d used McAlister’s money in order to purchase methamphetamine from a local dealer.

Eric Wallace, a police captain with the Redding force, declared that it’s a load of his mind knowing that this case has been officially closed. More than that, he took it upon himself to notify the victim’s next of kin.

Although relieved, Frank’s mother said that the news of Hawkins’ confession and an arrest made her relive those days of dread.

AI Learns to Detect Suicidal Intentions by Recording Brain Reactions to Keywords (Study)

November 3, 2017 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

sad girl

STATES CHRONICLE – At the moment, numerous teams are experimenting how far they can go with artificial intelligence at such a young stage in this tech area. The good news is that its uses transcend the sector of technology. It turns out that psychiatry can benefit from AI as well. A new study found a way to intercept suicidal intentions in people by recording how they react to certain keywords.

People Reading Negative or Positive Keywords Can Give Their Suicidal Intentions Away

According to the World Health Organization, at least 800,000 persons commit suicide in a year. It is the second most common cause of death for people age 15 to 24 in the United States. However, the system possesses means to prevent suicides from happening. The problem is how to detect people with suicidal thoughts.

A new study might have a solution to close this gap in the system. The method needs brain scans and a certain software with artificial intelligence to detect when someone is considering to take her own life. The journal Nature Human Behavior published the results online.

The team of researchers led by Carnegie Mellon University neuroscientist Marcel Just discovered that certain patterns at the level of the brain are giving away suicidal intentions. These reactions are triggered when people read keywords related to death, suicide, and other negative or positive emotions on a piece of paper.

“What is central to this new study is that we can tell whether someone is considering suicide by the way that they are thinking about the death-related topics.”

The AI Software Recorded a 94% Success Rate

Researchers examined 34 participants. Out of these, 17 persons were confronting suicidal thoughts while the rest of them were healthy control subjects. Each of them was coupled to an MRI machine while reading a series of keywords. Ten of them inspired positive emotions such as ‘carefree.’ Other ten terms inspired negative feelings such as ‘desperate’ or ‘hopeless.’

Based on their data, researchers marked five regions of the brain that form certain patterns when persons are contemplating suicide. They also extracted six keywords that can give a suicidal person away. The result is an algorithm that had a 94% success rate when identifying participants who attempted suicide at some point in their lives.

The findings of this study can help healthcare experts identify and monitor patients with emotional issues. They can intervene and prevent possible suicides as long as they track down such intentions in due time.
