Women join to support breastfeeding in public

“The Global Big Latch On” is a community initiative in making breastfeeding in public a normal habit and form support groups for women who want to raise the awareness during World Breastfeeding Week, in the first week of  August. This event went big, as hundreds of women around the world gather together in several locations to breastfeed.

There were always people for and against breastfeeding in public, but the truth is that this thing should be seen as a normal habit. Let’s talk about the advantages of breastfeeding.  Well, first of all, it means secure food for infants. It contains energy, minerals, proteins, vitamins and water. If you want to have a healthy child, who develops normally, you should give him breast milk. Why? Because it contains antibodies which help the infant stay away from diseases. It was proven that mothers who breastfeed are also healthier, with a good hormonal control.

Breastfeeding is also really good in dealing with poverty as it is a low-cost feeding method. It doesn’t matter if you do not have enough money because  breast milk contributes to savings on your budget. There are also areas, especially in Africa, where people don’t even have clean water. Breastfeeding is the safest and cheapest solution for your child. The infant will have a better immune system and his brain will develop better.

Let’s think bigger. There are so many factories that produce milk and they are polluting our air. If women would breastfeed more, those factories will use less energy and so, our environment would be safer. I know that every parent thinks about the future of his/hers child. If you want your kid to live in a better world, you should start paying more attention to the environment too.

Mothers who participated in the event for normalizing breastfeeding in public think it should be a norm. They are also in the opinion that some people are over reacting for a habit that has positive effects for the infant and for the mother too. We will see if some changes will take place as more and more mothers are trying to make public breastfeeding something normal. Is not easy for all the people to agree on a topic and there will also be some against it. All in all, breastfeeding is the best meal you can give to your infant as it contains all the vitamins he/she needs and also makes a special connection between you and him.
