Cans of fresh air are already commercialized in China
STATES CHRONICLE – Although this might seem like a joke to many of us, levels of smog in China are so concerning that people believe canned air is the only solution.
After bottled water has become very popular, some of us finally understood it’s probably the biggest scam in the world. This understanding led to people coming up with ideas such as water filters or many of us simply returned to normal, tap water. Of course, there are many countries in which water is so polluted, that this is not an option, but filters could indeed help and they would actually be a lot cheaper on long-term than bottled water.
The analogy between bottled water and canned air seems to be the most obvious and while many people believe this to be the only solution, to other it just looks like the next scam of our world and a huge rip-off.
As we all know, the biggest air pollution problem is in China. Beijing is covered in smog and authorities have already issued two red alerts. Most of the population wears masks and now many of them can be seen breathing from cans.
Seeing how bad the situation is in China, a Canadian company decided to sell them fresh mountain air coming from the Rocky Mountains. The company is called Vitality Air and is selling a bottle or can of ‘premium oxygen’ with approximately US$15-18 depending on the size. They sold 500 bottles in the first two months.
But there is a precedent to this in China. In 2013, a Chinese multimillionaire sold 8 million cans of fresh air from areas such as Taiwan and Xinjiang. He actually managed to sell them in ten days, but they only cost 80 cents. However, sales are expected to increase, given the alarming level of smog.
Restaurants are also adding air filters which could offer a pollution-free atmosphere. However, this was not officially proved, and the owners actually charge their customers one yuan for the air they’re breathing.
And if canned fresh air was not enough, nowadays you can even take a whiff of air from your favorite city (provided it is an iconic one). Thanks to Kirill Rudenko, a Czech artist, you can now smell Paris or London or Rome directly from a can for only US$9.99.
It is still unclear how much canned air can actually help and how much it can actually rip people off for nothing, but given the alarming situation in Beijing, people probably see it as better than nothing.
