Like always, Google has been working to redesign the appearance of its various services. Google has now revamped the user interface of Gmail. The upgrade will be available to Gmail Android app and Gmail iOS app and web versions. The new Gmail was unveiled on Wednesday. It comes with automatic labels feature.
The new update will arrange your email in different categories such as primary, social, promotions, updates and forums. The category tabs are big and we can understand that it has been designed touchscreen devices and you can personalize the new Gmail as the way you want. It also offers you drag-and-drop feature to transfer messages to different categories. The announcement on the new Gmail came through Google’s official Gmail blog.
The new Gmail category tabs were introduced to get rid of inboxes that appear cluttered. The emails will now be categorized on the basis of common kinds of email you get. Here is an example. If you receive an email by social networks, it can be seen listed in Social Updates. If you get promotional offers by retailers, it will slot itself In the Promotions categories.
The new Gmail allows you to modify the settings in order to make emails from specific sender to automatically get listed in predefined categories as they arrive. Google has aimed to make Gmail very intuitive on touch-based devices and the new edition will also allow you to organize your emails.
The updated apps for iPhone, iPad and Android powered devices will be available for installation through respective stores in couple of weeks. If you do not like the new Gmail, you can turn the feature off and make use of the classic Gmail which you have been using since long time. For those who are interested in trying the new Gmail, you will have to wait for some time as the update is going to be available very soon.
When the update will be available, you will see a gear icon appear automatically at the right hand side top corner on your Gmail and then the feature will be available for use. The concept of automatically arranging emails according to the topic of the email isn’t something innovative. Microsoft Outlook also now offers a similar feature which sorts the messages. Microsoft has only made the feature to be available on iPhone and Android app.
If you can’t wait for the update to become automatically available to you, you can go to Settings and then go to Configure Box and then select Default and then by refreshing you can use the newly designed Gmail. Once the new Gmail becomes available to you, you toggle between old and new Gmail by making use of the drop-down menu near your inbox.
