Budget of Obama Reflects Gap of $1 Trillion

April 4, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

There is a policy gap of almost $1 trillion added with the conceptual leap on the taxes between President Barack Obama and his congressional Republicans in the administrative budget of 2014. It was proposed by Obama yesterday that tax payers who give high amount for estates and private equity management will be getting the tax code reformed. This section will also include tobacco users an top earners; however this proposal was instantly and immediately rejected by the Republicans stating it as absurd and unacceptable.

In the words of Dave Kautter who is the managing director of the Kogod Tax Center of the American University based at Washington, “It looks like the president is planning for one way and the Republicans are going on the other path.” he adds that it is not known whether the reformed proposal for taxes will be included in the budget.

It is also observed that there is already harmony between the two parties in relation to the lowering of the corporate tax rate added with some cut downs in the break- on as it goes on with terms and policies. The budget plan of Obama is also focusing on some details of an old layout also. In the meantime, the issue of using tax business with individual owner’s return remains a debate among the policy makers.

It is for the first time that Obama is keeping aside the business tax increase with cuts in the corporate rate, showing how difficult this process and effort will be. It is stated that the fund of almost $95 billion which is increased by tax on US companies on their foreign earning will act as a cover u for the rate deduction of average 1 percent, unlike the 7 points that was proposed by Obama and the 10 points that was favored by the Republicans.

The framework and layout of last year reflects that the other way to improve on the money is through uplift in the depreciation value along with reduction in the interest rate. Apart from this, keeping aside some of the expansion plans and provisions for future need may be a helping option for the Congress to debate on, says Pamela Olson who is the deputy tax leader of US and associated with the PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP based at location of Washington.

In the budget plan, Obama has included some proposal and versions from the Republican camp which talks about imposing a taxation of mark-to-market in regard to the derivations that will rise up to $19 billion. According to Chuck Marr who is the director of the tax policy in the organization of Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the change in the corporate revenue policy will be quite difficult to get approval of the Congress.

Obama Supports UN Arms Pack; Opposed By Iran, Syria

March 26, 2013 By Jack M. Robinson Leave a Comment

Yesterday the first treaty of international global arms and trade of $70 billion was taken over by the General Assembly of the United States after a voting session that worked amidst the debate of US regarding gun control. This treaty is reported to have been permitted by a tally of 154-3 voting which is undoubtedly more than two third in respect to the total members counting to 193. While 23 nations were abstained, countries such as Iran, Syria and North Korea voted against the treaty pact.

Though the treaty was backed and supported by the government of US after rectification by the Senate of the nation, there is doubt that the treaty might not get submitted in the chamber rightly. It was observed that the National Rifle Association has pushed against the pact, added with the Senate having a symbolic voting cast against it.

After years of negotiations being hammered out, this treaty and agreement is expected to stop the shipment of cross border arms and weapons, which includes small arms to big ones such as launchers, tanks, attack helicopters and warships to name a few. It is feared that these arms and ammunition can be used to excite terrorism and crimes against humanity with violation of rules and regulations.

It is pleasing for US to see that the General Assembly of United Nations has permitted and accepted a strong and prominent treaty against arms and weapons, said John Kelly, the US Secretary of State. He adds that this treaty will successfully assist in reducing the risk of international transfer of various arms which can be carried out to indulge in the worst of world crimes such as terrorism, wars, killing etc.

It is expected that the next step for the members of UN will be to go for a sign up of treaty with changes and rectifications. As per rules, with approval from 50 countries, the treaty will be ready to go into effect.

Though there were lots of talks about the agreement of the sale of multilateral arms, it is seen that only after Obama’s election in the year of 2009, US which is one of the largest exporter of arms has truly stood for its opposition. Though the treaty for opposition related to export of arms was long pending, US truly stepped forward only after Obama took over as president of US in 2009.

As per the revelation of a US official who is updated about this ongoing issue, it is expected that even though Obama will be signing the treaty, the senate does not plan to place it to the administration for changes.  Not willing to be named, the source also says that there are internal debates regarding this treaty currently. On the other hand, spokesman of the White House Jay Carrey refused to make any administrative comment.
