Parkinson's could be caused by a cellular defect

A cellular defect could be the main cause for Parkinson’s.

STATES CHRONICLE – Researchers say they found a cellular defect that could be the main cause of Parkinson’s.  According to them, they discovered a molecular biomarker that characterizes not just the most common cases of Parkinson’s, but also the forms that are unusual for the doctors. The study was made by people from the Stanford University.

Researchers explained that  this cellular defect prevents the cell from eliminating their internal power sources. This way, there are not able to release more energy. Scientists are hoping that this discovery will lead to earlier diagnoses of Parkinson’s and more treatments for this disease. They also described a way  to allow the neurons to remove the damaged mitochondria and protect the cells.  However, they have to test it on animals before they will be able to treat humans. Researchers think  also they will be able to develop a better test for Parkinson’s.

There are more than 1 million Americans who have Parkinson’s. Even though the disease is more common in older people,  it can be harmful to people, no matter the age. For example, Michael J. Fox, who did a foundation for Parkinson’s Research, was diagnosed with this disease when he was 29 years old.

Parkinson’s is a chronic disease and its symptoms continue to be worse. Doctors still do not know the main cause for it and there is no cure. However, patients can have some treatments to control its symptoms. People suffering from Parkinson’s have dead nerve cells in the brain. The main symptoms are the tremor of the hands and legs. Moreover, patients are not able to have control over their body.

There are some people who have surgery as treatment for Parkinson’s disease. It is approved for those patients who have this disease for some years and the medication does not seem to make them feel better. There are also many researchers who try to find a cure for this disease. For those of you who suffer from Parkinson’s,  another solution would be involved in a human research study. You will have the chance to know more about your disease. Moreover, if researchers will find a treatment, you will be one of the first people who will try it.

We are expecting more research in the future about this cellular defect and how it is linked to Parkinson’s. It could be another  step in finding a treatment for this disease.
