As we all know by now, the electronic cigarette is not a healthy alternative for quitting smoking real cigarettes. A lot of studies have shown that e-cigarettes are very dangerous, especially in the wrong hands. A new report has been made public saying that e-cigarettes poisoned hundreds of people. The government report has also reveals that these poisoning cases are on the rise in the US.
In February, a total of 215 people called the poison control centers saying that they were intoxicated with e-cigarettes. What’s more disturbing is that more than half of the people were children age 5 and younger and more than 40% involved people age 20 and older.
E-cigarettes poisoned hundreds of people because of its high concentration of nicotine which can be deadly for children. The medical experts say that because e-cigarettes are skyrocketing the poisoning cases will continue. For the recent study researchers examined all the calls related to poisoning to find out whether they have been poisoned by normal or electronic cigarettes.
It seems that there were about 2,405 calls related to e-cigarette poisoning between September 2010 and February 2014. In 2010 there was a 0.3% of e-cigarette poisoning. In February 2014 that percent is 41.7. Another terrifying statistic states that 70% of the cases the poisoning occurred because a person ingested the liquid nicotine. The most common symptoms of e-cigarette or liquid nicotine poisoning are nausea, vomiting, and eye irritation.
E-cigarettes Poisoned Hundreds and will continue to do so
The recent studies reveal that the use of e-cigarettes is growing and it became popular among teenagers. Doctor Tim McAffee, the director of the CDC office on Smoking and Health has stated that: “Now, this report shows e-cigarette-related poisonings are also increasing rapidly and Health care providers, e-cigarette companies and distributors, and the general public need to be aware of this potential health risk from e-cigarettes.”
