Facebook just keeps angering a lot of people these days. A while ago we saw how Facebook banned breastfeeding photos, which drew some really harsh criticism. Last week they banned false identities and who knows what they’ll ban next? One thing’s for sure, Facebook is losing popularity and other websites are gaining it. Ello social network could be the death of Facebook.
The Ello Social Network
Ello is a newly founded social network that has some big ambitions. It was founded just six weeks ago by a group of programmers and for now you can join by invitation only, as the website is in Beta. Some voices are saying that the Ello social network is receiving around 35,000 requests for invites per hour.
Facebook is losing its customers because it’s giving away personal information to companies for marketing purposes. Its flagrant profiteering has been under fire many times in the past. Ello’s manifest wants nothing to do with that and considers that its users are not a product. They also vow to remain ad-free and say that:
There are some Ello users who don’t want to share any information, even anonymous information, about themselves with anybody. We’re cool with that.
Wow, a social network that want to protect its users’ personal information! Mark Zuckerberg and his company have been facing a lot of turmoil this year, starting with the news that it has 3 million fewer young people than it did in 2011. Also, the fact that Facebook banned breastfeeding photos or using an alias, also didn’t help the internet giant.
It appears that Ello is here to stay, as someone already targeted the Ello social network with an attack. Malicious users made the site temporarily crash, but the website managed to get back on its feet. This is just the first of many attacks, some analysts believe.
